My MoM fetish is simple. Civ, but with tactical combat and magic. The details really aren't that relevant, it's tactical combat and magic that mattered. You take an otherwise boring and trivial game and make it wonderful with those two additions. If there were something besides AoW to compare to, I'd gladly drop other names when talking about mechanics. Unfortunate, the original is still the best

I think Picasso sucks. But I will concede he must have been a great artist because everyone says so. I had an art teacher in college that said that the goal of art was to try to evoke an emotion in the viewer, and if you conveyed the message that you wanted to convey, then you succeeded. In my book, Picasso must have wanted to convey "wow whoever painted these really sucks." Obviously he must have evoked different emotions in a great number of people, and they would probably say I jus

Wizard's First Rule is a first-rate fantasy story as far as I'm concerned, and the next few books in the series are pretty good, too. The story started to drag on and get too convoluted starting with the 5th book, at which point the series degenerated into a steami

Sample scripts for more than just the AI, but all kinds of things would be wonderful.

Since maximum mana is tied to essence and essence is only gained by leveling, this can be balanced by requiring a high mana pool to cast the "world altering" high level spells. It will be all about balancing.

How many spells do you expect a player to have access to in a given game? Are spells available based on faction? Are spells made available based on the number and type of nodes? Are there going to be spells that require access to multiple elements? What other sorts of options at game creation will add replayability to the game? Do you foresee including any player created content (from beta) in the Canon release? Is February 2010 still looking li

Well to me there are so many different things you can like and sometimes even what is important may switch around. For instance, usually for me the epitome of skill in story writing is that epic feel that you practically experience the story and you feel the eons that have gone before and you see the present of the story as a culmination of events that have been transpiring for hundreds or thousands of years. The authors created world becomes "real" in a sense. Tolkien and Fra
Speaking for myself, I'm a Python newbie. But I think what you see is our desire to make Elemental a game but also a platform. We've seen this with RPGs like Neverwinter Nights where modders could keep creating interesting things. That's what we're hoping to do. I don't think, at release, Elemental will have anything close to that kind of modding capability as it will be the result of months/years of migration of C++ to P

GW, I just gotta say, I have always deep down held Frank Herbert and Tolkien in esteem in a way that your previous post alludes to. Whatever faults they both may have had, they certainly had an ability to not only tell a story, but to create a world (worlds in Herbert's case) that not only existed during the time frame of the story being told but there was a real sense of history, of thousands of small events happening over hundreds or thousands of years that brings the world(s) to th

I don't presume that the Elemental boards will somehow be free of posts from zero-sum 'win' lovers. I'm just fairly certain that making the core AI code public would do nothing for me except increase the number of posts I wish I hadn't read. I play to play, and people who play to win mostly seem to value things that I find to be no fun, or

Yeah MoM defintely was not the perfect game by a long shot. It seems like I remember a ton of late game crashes, sound problems, etc. I guess like some here agree, the gameplay made it worth putting up with all of it's crap. EWOM could capture that same magic in a completely different way. There are many things that have been revealed that at this point, an updated, stable MoM would be a little bit of a disappointment. I am all for innovation and trying new things. Like Scoutdog said
I challenge you to find any post any where on this forum where anyone has promoted this idea. AFAIK no one has. I think GW Swicord understands what I am saying - your argument for "something new" has some merit, but I don't think anyone (OK there are a few sickos out there that would) wants to eat

A good many people were attracted to EQOM because it was sonbwhat billed as a "spiritual successor" to MoM. While it should be entirely clear that it is not all that much like MoM, I still think it is completely right and expected that people express ideas on these boards and why they like or dislike them. Of course if someone is expressing an idea they like there is an unspoken "therefore it should be in EWOM." there is a logical point that I am getting to. Not many people ac
As you revive the land, you should get some mix of everything. Obviously it shouldn't be random and spotted everywhere, and you should probably even be able to tell what the land will become even before you revive it. As far as adding your own races, creatures etc They said you could import stuff from Maia or possibly some other 3D object creator. So it is not going to be like Spore. At least that aspoect is going to require a decent amount of know-how-skillz.

Hmmm the most definitive post I can find on it was posted by Aeon....I could very well have been led astray, my brains may have made a connection that wasn't there... In my defense here is what Aeon posted a LONG time ago.. It might be a bit of a pointless diversion, but let's speculate on the characteristics of factions based purely on their names (which is pretty much all we have right now). It might throw up some good ideas/stimulate
