I hope I haven't come out as "anti-spying". That's not the case at all. If there is a system that really makes it feel immersive, like real spying then I think that could definitely be a good thing. I am just against paying a certain amount of coin per turn to maintain some nebulous "spy network" and then paying the again for an "anti-spying network". Even if they didn't appear on the main map, if you can give spies specific missions with varying chances of success, costs, and possibl

I thought Spartan verified with SD soe time ago there would be no NDA....wonder what caused them to change their minds?
Quoting Denryu, reply 1 OMG, what a transparent play for an alpha spot! . . . . . . . No, transparent would be me throwing in mentions of all the wonderful things I've done in previous betas, like Sins of a Solar Empire. Transparent would be me pointing out my name in the Sins of a Solar Empire manual. Transparent would be me ringing up every single contact I have in SD to see if I

Frogboy really is smart. If he had come in here and said "the release is going to be postponed until August." there would have been weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth. This way he has us begginf for a postponement. Brilliant! [e digicons]:frogboy:[/e] (I have moved from being gung ho for the delay to neutral to still leaning for the delay.)
A game that doesn't have any kind of market pressure for when it has to be released is pretty rare.
And as rare as they are, it is even rarer that the game is ever released if there isn't the pressure of a deadline. Duke Nukem Forever, anyone? [e digicons]X([/e]
I have reconsidered my answer re: the extended dev cycle. I think a better option might be to continue with the February release date beta cycle, then around December evaluate and at that point ask "Can we release the game that we want in two months?" Also, seeing as how this is a War of Magic game, wouldn't it be a lot more fun to obtain all your secret spy info thru magical means? I mean what spy could be better than an air elemental? Anything to abstracted just turns into "Pour money in to get info, and pour more money in to keep other guys from getting your info. Somehting that might be kind of fun would be to have a unit that, while not invisible, would only be seen by a unit in a non adjacent non-city tile (but that c

I think it is a great idea. Since all preoders are going to be in beta anyway, and by February we are going to have what we are going to have whether you call it "beta" or release v 1.0 - as far as fun and playability even for someone who doesn't want to test but just wants to play...it's all going to be the same. So why not extend the development cycle, it would give you opportunites to possible go in competely new directions with some things, where if you DID do a cull release it seem
They had a post, I think there were 2 dozen handpicked, and I think that was based off of excellent beta testing on other products. My understanding is beyond that it is luck of the draw from among preorders, although I do think you get an entry in the drawing for each SD product you owned. I do not remember if karma or activity on the forums mattered at all.
It woudl definitely be cool if they had a KB or some other bug tracking system so that we don't duplicate effort, or it would be nice to go into an existing bug and be able to add information (Not modify existing obviously) but if you saw the same bug but the steps to reproduce or environment was different. If they ahve just done it via forums in the past though - it must get the job done for them.
I've tried reading Tolkien five-six times now and every single time I get so bored to tears that I just can't keep going. I might aswell read a textbook on medieval poetry or take sleeping pills. On the other hand, I'd say that I've read the Malloreon and the Belgariad over 10 times and I still today curse the fact that I lended all my books to a friend-who's-not-a-friend anymore, because I've wanted to re-read it another 10. I
I am guessing since they have developed a few games, they probably have a process in place of making sure all the testers know how to get them the information they want. My guess is for alpha they will send out emails that will have all the details of what info they want.
First, thanks for starting to spell Espionage with a 'p'. I am not a spelling Nazi, because I type so terribly, but that one was seriously causing bad chemicals to flow in my veins. I'm really on the fence about spycraft - it has been done so boringly and so stupidly in so many games, and I really haven't seen it implemented well EVER that I can think of. But if SD could think of a new innovative way to put it in, why not? But seriously, GC2 that was really the only negative in the ga
Actually it has been years for me also - ever since Ifound some web page that was a gathering place for people that wanted MoM2 and there were rumors that SD was going to be making a fantasy TBS and were trying to get the rights to MoM - in fact that was how I got introduced to StarDock, and I order GalCiv2 to see how good of games DtarDock made lol - no, I am not joking. So yeah. Years.
THanks. Looking forward to hires MOM!
LOL I hope this is a joke - or that you handle disappointment well.
Love your new avatar Winter - lets, see how many avatars is that for you now? lol We could be playing EWOM in w WEEK! OMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lol, we will see how Brad's vacation goes. I realize that was Boogie posting on twitter, but "I'll believe it when I see it." Frogboy posted just a couple days ago that depending on the weather at his vacation spot could move alpha a day or two either way. Still, this is a promising sign!
Welcome to the forums! This game is going to SO kick azz! I think it is going to very much be its own game, but will have, hopefully, some ideas taken from Age of Wonders, Master of Magic, and tactical combat is said to be somewhat like X-COM with magic. You are so lucky to just be finding out about it just a few weeks from beta starting - some of us have been anticipating and dying for this game for MONTHS!
First, I don't think the idea of peasant defense is a stupid idea in THIS game. We are talking about poeple that have been living it pretty bad conditions for some time. certainly they have been fighting of wild animals and probably in many cases each other. These are the survivors. So I think saying Bah! peasants does not fairly take the setting we have been given so far into account. Second, your idea for traits for your populace is almost surely going to be in. I honestly
I don't like the idea of my citizen's being nothing more than a resource. Too much like Real Life. [e digicons]:([/e] Companies used to have Personel Departments, now corporations have Human Resources. Think about it. [e digicons]:puke:[/e] [e digicons][/e] Of course, at least in a game I get to use the resource rather than being it! So maybe [e digicons][/e]
