Feature-wise what are the expected differences between the alpha version and the beta version?
That's awesome, so it sounds like despite the setbacks, That Q1 2010 is still the ultimate target. Too bad about alpha being bumped again, but that's life. As far as jobs...is there any possibility that you would hire someone on a piecework basis with no benefits? I would love to contribute and could easily put 4 hours a day in doing anything that would be helpful. All of my programming experience is in obsolete languages (IBM 370 Assembly) but seriously if I can proofread or

I apologize, there just haven't been any threads lately that have really been very exciting. I do appreciate the dev journals always of course, but it seems like things have been a bit dead lately. Everyone is just so amped for alpha/beta to start and it seems like we have hashed and rehashed thru all of the available information so far. I realize that once alpha starts that will change as the floodgates of info will be wide open at that point. Anyway, my favorite thread s

This Percy Spencer fellow was testing a magnetron developed to be used on radars; testing it to verify that it functioned as expected. He was in no way trying to figure out what other esoteric uses microwaves have - he was building and testing magne
Yes, getting RNG'd is quite infuriating. Even worse when you don't see it coming. Plus, it's not how real research works: say you are trying to build a faster car. You would get a bunch of engineers, and physicists, put them in a lab with wind tunnels, engine prototypes, and tell them the specs. They might fibnd out some new stuff to help with later projects in the process, but in the end you get what you decide to research. It's not like you are
It's funny that it is actually based on an artist's style - I definitely did not get the cartoony comment, and I always felt it had more of a stained glass, classical art feel to it than "cartoony". I definitely see the resemblance to the "inspiration" pieces Boogie posted. I think it is very cool that you are going for that look and have the artists that can actually deliver that kind of look in a game. Much nicer than ultra-realism for this type of game (imho)!
The problem with blind systems is that after the first time, they are no longer blind. You know what to expect, and research accordingly.
That would be a blind static tech tree which would be retarded. I am pretty sure that everyone that wants a blind system also wants a degree of things getting moved around, possibly even completely different spells available from one game to the next. Yeah there would be the possibi
Do you plan on spell research being linear like a tech tree that will be static from one game to another, or will spell research and spells available for research be different between games, and will there be any randomization involved in what is available to be researched?
I don't know about something like that..... I rather enjoy the predictability of a planned tech tree: you can choose to research an important or crucial technology, and not mess around with getting random crap instead. Imagine in GC2 if you wanted to counter the enemy's missiles with, say, ECM, and you wound up with a bunch of low-level armor that is little to no help. Of course, there could be some randome elements added, but there would be a def
I don't think the art style is even cartoony, and I like the style a lot.
Quoting Tridus, reply 4 AoW:SM did that with spell research, giving you some options at a time out of all the spells, based on what your chosen schools were. The problem that caused was the same as with really randomized tech trees or "blind research": the Random Number Generator. ... That 'RNG problem' isn't a problem for some singleplayer types (ones like me, anyway). My main interest is variety (re
I concur. For a Magic based game I particularly liked the MoM approach. If it did follow a linear tech tree like GC2, it would be cool if a new tech tree were generated each game from a pool of spells in each school. So you might have the choice of the next spell to research in each school, but you would not know what was going to be available farther down the tree. Which really makes more sense, you typically do not know in advance what future tech is going to be available based on w

You get all kinds of promises and perks promised and blah blah and in the end you end up waiting on them to do something they promised months ago. What a nice excuse using Demigod as a reason for the setback and you all still waiting to

Yep tying content to achievements would suck. But making it so your channelers eyes glow and crap like that would be fun, and other ways to pimp out your chaneller's appearance, stuff like that would be very cool.
