So, how to combat nostalgia?
You ignore it and value things for what they are (or could be by themselves) and not for what others are/were. Easier said than done but there is it. Even if you were to ignore the nostalgia for game X, Elemental would still have its flaws and we would still get people annoyed that this is not and won't be MoM 2. Myself, right now, only see myself playing MoM again because of nostalgia. Oh, maturity is based on s
That's not a good argument, almost so bad I questioned if it even deserved a response. I'm simply talking about the tactical battles themselves. I'm simply talking about the battles. Thats it. I agree on a STRATEGIC level, the games are far different. But I am not talking about that. The battles are similar, but FFT does it far better. The maps have meaningful terrain. Units movement, speed
Beta. Crash bugs, I could live with. Breaking the zone of control so it resets all the building you've done, when it worked just fine before, is not something I hand wave with the beta comment. It's made the beta difficult to test and evaluate, and that's something they need to avoid.
You are wrong. They are trying to improve the code for the ZOC, therefore it's natural that bugs may happen about it. Sad but
You don't have you army limited by empire/kingdom management. You don't have enemies that can destroy/conquer your cities, limiting your resource pool, you cannot get unlimited random battles to farm and/or level up the dudes/dudettes, etc. You can say that once in battle all those details doesn't matter but they do because how you enter that battle has been conditioned by far more elements than in the RPG. And balance is like quite different too. I doubt that anyone can find Farmers
To be perfectly honest, the game isn't very good. Unless you are the rare, die hard fantasy strategy gamer that doesn't care about balance, tactics, or interesting world, factions, and gameplay...
What kind of die hard fantasy strategy gamer is that? ("A rare one" doesn't cut it as answer) :P And although I know that 99.999999....% of the Universe disagrees with me, tactical combat in Elemental and MoM are really really simila
Being a beta that requires internet so Stardock can make data changes without forcing us to update/reinstall, doesn't it mean that we are using their XML files and not ours? Not saying Dodge doesn't work (as said in some threads) but that I'm not sure we can tweak basic files to check stuff.

Wouldn't be a good idea to have many of that kind right now though, imho. Once Stardock gets a better handling of new spell types/roles and there is more balance, then would be the moment to talk about "Finishing Spells" like the Volcano.
You are a channeler. You are the lord and master of the pure magical elements. Fire to melt a man's flesh off his bones. Water to call tsunamis and level cities. Earth to crack the land and send armies tumbling into great crevasses. Air to summon tornadoes to tear apart cities and show your domination over the skies. You are near godhood. You can take on entire armies by yourself, smash titans back into the ground, slaughter the Fallen like lambs... Or you kno
Kingdoms use Life magic so the lands they control changes to reflect that influence as they are brought to life after the Cataclysm (no, not the WoW one), getting grassy lands. Empires use Death magic and the lands they control react similarly as they are brought to life after the Cataclysm (nope, still not the WoW one), getting "dead" lands.

If buying now gets free expansion (not sure, I bought mine long ago so I don't check this), it should save you some money. Waiting for the eventual price drop may happen but apparently not anytime soon (or near). I like the basic game and I'm loving the new changes. But if money could suppose a problem, like seems to be your case, I'd wait. But only because I suppose that you would prefer to enjoy a version of Elemental with more features and options from the moment you buy it. Once 1

Different mana types was like most hated. I don't mind it and alternate generic costs for the spells (Fireburst: 4 Fire mana or 8 Mana of any other types) should still allow you to cast the spells you want in case of "Oh noes! Not Shard of my specialization!". Not that magic specialists have anything to say in the game as there are none (currently?).
