Dawn wouldn't work very well, I think, though it is a pretty one. Some of the nations, ie me for one, would be forced to start in their pre-set location. In my case that consists of swamp, swamp and more swamp. While C'Tis units have swamp survival, we would still have to deal with the lack of resources etc. I have been using that map for all of my test games so I'm familiar with it. Even if you randomize who starts in which location, whoever else starts on the east swampland woul

Funny, that pretty much describes my post-secondary education.
That one looks interesting. I'm for it.
Well, I like this map well enough, but if you have one specifically designed with eight players and where this kind of thing is guaranteed not to happen, then yes I think I would rather restart, if that's OK with everyone else. Also, if you think it better, I would certainly be willing to abide by rules such that we do not start diplomatic discussions until we encounter each other in game. For me, I don't really get into the role-playing aspect of these kinds of games, so I do
Elana and I discussed starting positions, yes, along with discussing what kind of gems we are looking to trade etc. I was more reluctant to give away my starting position in the other game, but I was not too worried about doing so with Elana, based on my experiences with her. We also started a few provinces away from each other in that game, by the way. I don't see any rules preventing this early diplomacy... did I miss something?
Guys, the map has placed Elana and I only two provinces away from each other. While I can't think of a better neighbour than Elana, did we not pick this map so that this kind of thing would not happen? With only eight players, 16 provinces per player (?), and hand-picked starting locations, I can't understand why this would happen...
Are the crowns on the map the starting capitals then?

Elana, if you want to switch nations as we were discussing, this might be a good time to do so, since we are stalled anyway. Wonderloss said it should not be a problem... up to you of course.
But.... sssssome of ussss like sssswamps! Ssss!
yes, ghostwas, be happy to meet you again... (happy yo have you in game) .., any tips on playing since you are fresh from the elementalist charnal house?
Hi Elana. I think doing some research into the strengths and weaknesses of your opponents and planning battles accordingly goes a long way. Not so much with Hinnom, as they apparently do not have any weaknesses (which does not speak well for balance in Dom3 IMHO).
It seems I am about to be eliminated in the "Elementialists" game so I may as well join another game, if you will have me. I'll try C'Tis.
News of the Pangaean declaration of war has reached my court, and Lanka stands behind our ally Omniphagus, master of the great champion Hanan'el. We hereby announce that Pangaea be an enemy of the people of Lanka. All aid that can be given will be given to the giants of Hinnom in the fight against our enemies!
Well, considering you and Pangea don't even border each other, you will have to go through my empire to get to him!
Ah, I see you've met my new allies. Ermorian Thaumaturges have been making contact with our dead ancestors in an attempt to glean information that might help us win the war against Hinnom. Our Flamen priests have been advising us not to talk with the dead, saying it will lead to eventual corruption of our empire. But, really, what do fire priests know about these things. What could possibly go wrong?
Perhaps an interesting compromise would be to let the veteran play whatever he/she wants, but then have all the newbs working cooperatively to take said veteran down. Give the veteran a few turns head start maybe. I think that might be a fun way to address balance issues, in both experience and nation strength.
Hey, where you going, Lanka? You're missing the big barbeque!
I would suggest having people with two or less games of MP under their belt instead of ten. I know from our ongoing "Elementalists" game that the people who have played a few games already seem way above those of us who have not. Anyone who has played as much as ten MP games is very far from being a newbie, and I would hate to see the effect they had on a game with complete newbies. I'm certain that would be demoralizing to the newbies to say the least. I think I'm content to
Well, 24 is fine with me but we have been down to the wire a few times. If it is set to 48 but everyone gets their turn before 48 is up, it still processes anyway, right? Seems better to air on the side of caution and set it to 48 in that case. Won't make us any slower, but it will give us some wiggle room if needed.

Now, if only I had researched the difference between "Patrol" and "Defend", grrr. That was a rather drastic mistake, I think, and things

Well, that's more like it. Take that, poo flingers.
Well, oops. Oh well, it was a fun battle and the war rages on. Doubt a complete newb like me can last against you and Hinnom at the same time but I'll give it my best.
So, I guess I screwed up my orders, causing that battle to go differently than intended. Still should be able to recover from it, however. If I have a commander and squadron that I want to basically hide in the castle for a turn, rather than engage the enemy immediately, what command should I give them? I thought "patrol" would do this, since the commander didn't really have many other options. This did not have the desired effect, obviously. That makes some sense, given that he w
We are not concerned. Ermor's tower shields were designed to repel arrows but I am sure they will work just as well against monkey poop.
Looks like Abysia is dead... Thanks for playing, Emerson. Hope to play with you again some day.
