Possible solution: Make Janus go both ways? And somehow that includes being able to have children with either gender. Well, it's a fictional world!
Sorry, what I meant by wanting to pursue was that I'd still be annoyed if Seattle being nuked stopped me from playing my games.
My understanding is that the "Properly implemented" quest of mastery is coming in 3-B :-).
Can we have the Loch Ness monster? A cute and cuddly wee beastie named Nessie. There could be a quest reward for finding her. Incase the good people at SD have never met her, here's a (fairly) recent photo: http://img.metro.co.uk/i/pix/2008/11/NessieFS_450x300.jpg Unfortunately she's a little camera shy but hopefully you can get her to sign a contract or whatever to ap
... to be honest, in the event of nuclear war I'm going to have more important things to worry about then if my games work.
Provided it was just between American and, oh, I don't know, Fiji, it'd just be a war between foreign countries which, while highly sad, certainly wouldn't stop me wanting to pursue my hobbies.
My main concern is that if there is a nuclear war or whatever on the US (I don't live there btw) and many companies are destroyed, people worldwide will lose access to so much content they've paid for. I guess there's a diplomatic imperative as well :P. I use Steam occasionally now because it's almost essential but frown on "digital-only content" in general. I considered signing up for Audible a while ago. I e-mailed them and asked, in the event of a nuclear war that obliterated your entire i
OOoooo, tactical battles. Can't wait to see them :-). Very curious to see how the Empire plays now as well. Seemed to need a Lot of work done in 3-A. Also.... 3B at around the same time Starcraft2 Phase2 stops. The timing! Perfection :-). Though SC2 beta just doesn't have the interaction of this. As somebody who's worked as a software engineer but never ever on a video-game it's awesome seeing how things come together :-).
Ah! I assumed the save was included in the dump :-$. Here it is: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8939060/Fergus1.EleSav Thanks :-)
Just a few comments/suggestions. Firstly, i've really been enjoying the beta :). The crashes really annoy me in 3-A purely because I'm suddenly finding it a fun and absorbing game rather than a cool testing experience. My main thoughts/suggestions: 1) I still feel cities could be slightly more specialised. Perhaps wonders will do this, I imagine (hope) the tech trees are still being worked on? 2) A-la point 1, I hope the Empire tec
Oh, also the dipllomatic effects of marrying between factions! :-)
I'm guessing the main decision at the moment is the power of the person and the risk they are in. So if I marry somebody with good combat ability they are more likely to survive an assault... but if i marry a merchant and keep them snuck away safely somewhere I don't have to worry about a dead spouse. Genetics or such would be awesome but possibly too much work seeing as feature-lock is very soon? Also there's already a Lot of re-balancing needing done. Expansion-pack feature perhaps? :). "El
I must say one of my concerns with the Empire is that in some ways they seem to be breaking the cardinal rule that realistic backstory should never be more important than fun. I get the impression they have plenty of work to be done but, yes, whilst different factions are good I hope they can avoid having things different for the sake of being different, when these 'standard' things are standard for a good reason.
Hi. So, faction selection currently comes with a bit of blurb about the faction and... that's it. I think it's quite important there's an "abilities summary" a-la GalCiv2. At the moment my choice of faction is generally based on "Which name&logo do I prefer atm? Do I want to go Kingdom/Empire?" and that's about it. Thanks
Quoting Frogboy, reply 4It's just poorly documented. You need to increase your quest level through research. It's also somewhat broken. For example, even though questing says it allows you to travel to inns to get quests, I can do that anyway without the technology. Also, I believe that this tech tree could be called "Lore", and presented as exposing new Lore about the world. Right now, it feels artificial -- I mean,
If your Sovereign dies in enemy territory they are dead forever. Hence why Dynasties are so important I guess.
I guess strange aging is a good thing. You don't want your Sovereign retiring due to old age every 50 turns or whatever. Then again you don't want a child to take 1000 turns to mature. So I guess this makes sense. If all else fails we could use a relativity argument? In the world of Elemental, children run around at 100mph at most times (Just like our world!) and their special version of relatitivity results in this age change.
I'm pretty sure I found this as well. If there IS something, presumably the fact several of us missed it completely suggests maybe it should be more obvious to the player? Of course there is an element of RTFM to that.... My general game-manual strategy is that I either a) Read the manual while it installs b) Read the manual if i'm on the bus/train/whatever on way home with a new game. Otherwise it remains unread until/unless I get a "RTFM
It would be nice to see some kind of particle effects in relation to availability. Off the top of my head, something like green/red sparklies/aura to signify a location's availability to the current unit. No sparklies if it's already been explored. Blue sparklies for quests underway.
Seconded. Some general sort of 'highlighting' to distinguish game-effecting terrain details from decorative is much needed I think.
Hi. Whenever I load this game i get a CTD on end turn :-(. Something must trigger it as i got a ctd, found my next save about five turns before, another ctd on same turn, then eventually saved on turn before ctd and it now repeatedly happens :-(. Also, if you find out what is causing it, could you let me know please so i could try and de-activate it? With 3-A i was finally feeling a transition from "I am testing" to "I am gaming" :( :(. http://dl.
Yeah, remember serious AI won't be in until it is feature-locked. No point taking all that time getting the comp to play the game well then changing a feature.
Can't you use the lower land spell to cut a path?
Just to make it "official" and not from a Stardock member :P Is it true that Brad Wardell actually wrestled a bear and won? I also heard he eats babies. Is this with brown sauce or ketchup?
I used to dislike hexes as I found them less aesthetically pleasing but now I'm pretty sure I prefer them to squares. Far too late to do anything in Elemental though I'm aware. Very curious to see how i find this in Civ5, along with the one-unit-per-tile. Hoping it does away with Civ's stacks-of-doom. As a side-note, why all the love for 2n-gons? I hereby request a grid made up of pentagons! That'll baffle the noobs! Besides, it's more realistic. I don't know about you
Oh. Can we have "Epic final-boss-music" when we attack a Sovereign and "Awesome sub-boss-music" when we attack a faction heir? Probably too late for this but... one can hope! :-)
