Having played Galciv2 and SOASE (admittedly by Ironclad) a great deal, the way i think of Elemental on release is almost as a "demo" of the game's potential. Comparing Galciv2 with both expansions, fully patched nowadays and the retail Galciv2 is.... amazing. Atm i think Elemental is pretty fun but I'm quite happily expecting it to reach 'epic' status in a year or two. I'm aware this is a bit odd and one can certainly argue the game is rushed but release-a-good-game....then make-utterly-aweso

/signed. Indeed, many thanks :-). Played first chapter of campaign then around 150 turns of my first sandboxg game. Most entertaining. I'm playing on Normal. Wasn't sure what difficulty is the classic 'AI plays its best and everybody has even abilities' difficulty? Certainly could use more polish in places but an awesome game and I'm sure SD will give it the polish it deserves over time :-). Can't help but feel that after the first, perhaps second
Faction customisation is in! Just requires xml editing now but means you can have a lot more freedom. I'm aware some may be intimidated by xml editing but you really shouldn't be, if you sit down and actually use it you should have the basic idea in five minutes. Though of course this is less accessible than the previous in-game editor. Overall my opinion is: Good game but in a year or two, with more polish and maybe two expansions (this Is a sd game :P) it'll be a game
My first soverign will be Zilor Zilhaust, the Multiverse Traveler. He is the character I use in all games, and in my head the constant theme is that he is one character traveling through dimensions and worlds righting the wrongs and fighting the evils that exist in the Multiverse and beyond. He will be a just ruler of a Kingdom faction, of which I am undecided, and he shall seek to control as much magic as possible to crush the Empire beneath him and
This post gave me an Awesome idea for a game to set up. Five players in the map. Myself and 3 AI in a team. Then one other AI, an XML-customised sovereign. This AI sovereign will have an insane set of abilities. He shall be Fallen and Empire. Myself and my AI team-mate shall be human and Kingdom. Fighting against the insane powers of "Dread Lord Norbert" or whatever he shall be called. Anybody else think this sounds like a cool idea for a sandbox? :-)
You do realise that until it's released myself and 5 of the 6 billion people on Earth are going to be hitting refresh on impulse every 3/4 seconds? Just think of the drain this is causing on the world's energy sources and how it is clogging up thee interwebs! If SD have any sort of social conscience they'll release the game now :-) :P. Well, it was worth a shot....
Main problem i have with steam/impulse etc. If, say, the US is destroyed by nukes tomorrow, i'll no longer be able to install my steam games.... Obviously i'd rather this didn't happen but much as I'd rather the US wasn't obliterated, if it was i'd still want to play the video-games i'd payed my hard-earned money for. I once considered joining Amazon's Audible service. I e-mailed and asked, if your offices are all obliterated by nuclear war, will i still be able to access all of my purchased
In the beta at least several spell-books could be researched. I believe the spell-books etc have been worked on quite heavily since the beta though. My guess is you'll be able to research it eventually but don't quote me on that.
Don't worry i know this, was just light jocularity :-) :P. It's just that I don't really see the point in creating and selecting your Sovereign when everybody will choose Procipinee.
I'm assuming the 'create Sovereign' will be disabled now we've gone from beta to retail. I mean Procipinee is already in the game right?.... right?!
I'm looking most forward to beating a random map without building a city. I'll travel east; always to the east...
*Starts first game* *spawns in East-most tile on the map* Hmmm.... *hits end turn*. *hits end turn*. *hits end turn*. You have won a wonderous victory by research! Hmmm.... Maybe i'll try it on the second difficulty next. *turns off computer*. <p
So.... I'm going to be unable to play from 24th Aug to 12th Sep, or so (much personal stuff to be done, really no time for gaming :-( ). It's afternoon for me atm. I'll be busy this evening. Hopefully have time to play tomorrow morning.... Moral of the story: Hurry up with the download! :-) :P. Spent a lot of time playing the beta and i'm too excited about the release to wait three whole weeks to play the retail after release! :P Not that I want it to be rushed or anything but... *loads impul
Quoting Nktalloth, reply 4It's just too bad it's so hard to get AI to do things that are "technically legal" like players do. An AI that could start legitimately out-maneuvering me would be a wonderful thing to behold. thats impossible that would be a real I not an AI the problem is humans LEARN there is no way a static ai can be competive in the long run cause ppl
Superb, looks like a much neater UI. Seems a great many awesome changes have been made since Beta 4. Sadly I'm going to have to wait a while to play the release version, too much on atm :-(. Looking good though! Also... suggestion. Day-0 version is called Platinum. Then after a few months, Diamond. Sorry but it had to be said. Zerg ftw! *escapes through a Nydus Worm* :-) :P
Love the idea for expanding the Diplomacy tree! Very neat :-). Most excited to see the changes. Any chances of some sshots of the new UI? :) :P. Also... to repeat everybody else... any chance of us seeing Beta 5? Pretty please? After all the good work the community has done? :-) :P :P
Quoting Tomgi, reply 50I've missed the faction/kingdom/empire/whatever creator in the beta ever since it was removed. I'm also not happy with the sovereign editor as it is now because I can't my sovereign as powerful as the premade ones. At least I can't duplicate Lord Markinn, not enough points. But I guess that will fixed/balanced by release so I'm not really worried about it. Everyone's favorite sorceress (Procipinee) is also
Guys, Frogboy isn't saying there Won't Be a Visual Editor. He's saying it will be a XML Editor AS WELL. Meaning there Will Be a Visual Editor AND it will allow us to edit XML variables as well. This means that for those people who don't like messing with XML you will have an easier way to do it!!! Be thankful, Not disappointed
Sure he doesn't mean a 'standard' XML editor? Eclipse for example :-).
Remember physical release in Europe would cost a lot in money. It might be unfortunate but i think we can all accept this isn't exactly going to be SC2 in terms of mainstream popularity. Sadly the budget for marketing just isn't there. Also though it looks pretty the budget just isn't there to make it Quite like, say, Civ5. In general i definitely prefer physical release but, hey, these guys/gals are working pretty hard, i figure they deserve to earn some money from making a good game. I also
Personally i think a percentage boost to the power of that element of your magic is the way to go (e.g. you get a 'modified int value') Or a percentage mana reduction.
My thoughts: Spells still need some work (I like the idea of one per tactical turn, maybe need some rebalancing then too of course.). No more Goodie huts. No more Goodie... huts. Now. I spy a Major, major game-breaking problem with this. Say I am playing "Emperor Magnus Jeremiah Scott V, Earl of Cheese". I start out near No gold resource. I therefore get a piffling 0.6 gold per turn or something. I find a gold resource. I want to fund a city. But
Great feedback! Re Technology Trees and what to expect as we move towards release: Civilization Tech Trees will continue to focus on things that improve your city. We're slowly migrating towards a system where certain buildings will require food to maintain (to feed the people working in them). In addition, we are looking to incorporate more maintainence related costs into this area. Warfare. For those who like
Are you saying that there are people that -pays- for Windows?
I really can't understand why people don't. I mean as software goes, you'll probably get a heck of a lot of hours use out of it the money it costs for the standard edition :-). Then again, you can always use Linux. Or dual-boot. Or Mac OS X (though then you Would have to get a Mac. eww.) :-)
I've had a recurrence of a difficult to isolate bug. You see, it somehow doesn't persist with saved-games, so i'm afraid i can't upload you my save... i'm guessing this is why the bug hasn't been fixed yet :-(. I have noticed occasionally the 'label' for once city will get replaced for that of another. So for example Pariden has a city called X, Altar has a city called Y. Sometimes i notice that there will be two cities with the 'display' for X (the little name and quic
Very important point sir! You need to do a one-time online-activation on install! This is unlikely to be an issue but I figure best to warn you incase it is :P.
Speaking of netbooks, will the game support the rather awkward resolution of 1024×600. It seems that a lot of games can't, or perhaps it is just the older games I try installing. The next beta looks, fun, I'm looking forward to the mod tools. I'm assuming the mod tools are bug free, it's the content integration we are to be looking for?
"Bug free"... I doubt you'll see them
