Imminent Gold

We’re wrapping up work on the gold version of Elemental.  Then it’s on to the day 0 version which is largely about polish, balance and tweaking.

Update: The team let me know that there is one more tweak being made that would affect this screenshot that isn't in my build and that's the font face is different in the final gold versus what I have on my machine.

First off the graphics look great in general.

The UI does indeed look more streamlined, and overall much more pleasant. I also really like the unit army grouping appearance. It's starting to feel professional now. So w00t!

Question for those who can answer:

I haven't been following the modding side of things too well, but am wondering: would it be possible to mod in a paper-doll styled equipment screen? Can the GUI be modded to that extent?

The lighting and tiles look better than mine. WHY?

Still hate the models faces/heads.

UI looks great but... What catches my eye is the improved lighting and ground textures?! Or am I just imagining things..?

This is the first screenshot of Elemental that actually looks good! :')

I like the toy soldiers-esque appearance of the graphics.

Question: is there going to be a pause in the game when you finish researching a spell/spell level and have nothing in the queue?  All too often I ended up not researching a spell for turns due to forgetting?

End of arstal's quote

In BETA4 you get a pop up window telling you which spell just got researched and a choice to either progress in powerlevel or research the next spell in queue (sp?) or go to the spellbook to build a queue.

Hopefully beta testers noticed the pretty significant UI changes.

Yes, I did, unit formations and the ambient lighting looks fantastic. If combat looks this good then I owe a big apology.

I'm going away for the weekend, I demand hope for lots of screenies and videos by then.

The Empire tree is now really like the Sins one (which is good) and now looks actually useful (which is good).  Looks miles better as expected, UI improvements also look good.

I personally prefer Silver.

The Alliegance Tree finally seems to be useful.

Superb, looks like a much neater UI. Seems a great many awesome changes have been made since Beta 4. Sadly I'm going to have to wait a while to play the release version, too much on atm :-(. Looking good though!

Also... suggestion. Day-0 version is called Platinum. Then after a few months, Diamond. Sorry but it had to be said. Zerg ftw! *escapes through a Nydus Worm* :-) :P

Seconded. I do like the graphical style of the game a lot, but the character's faces look unsightly square. When I watched the beta footage I chuckled about the "ugly" option for the Sovereign as if it were truly optional.  :D

I really like this new screenshots... lighting is much much more nicer, and is giving nice depth to the terrain. Also, Empire tree is much more advanced, and I like the bottom bar. Very nice work, however what font face means? Is it new rendering syste, for fonts, which you were talking about?

Please, make animation of individuals asynchronous, it was always looking stopid, when all the same units moved at the same time, with exactly same animation

Can't wait for Final release, nice work Stardock!

It would seem to indicate what is contained inside those unexpanded Icons. Red (for Unit types), Green (for Buildings).

I've been waiting 15 years for this!  It looks amazing and I can't wait to recieve my Limited edition.  Will pre-orders ship on the 24th or before?

I have been trying to determine the exact makeup of my customized soveriegn, but scouring the journals for the data on talents, histories, and other stats is not fun.  Please release some parts of the manual or otherwise give information peraining to soveriegn customization prior to the 24th!  I want to know exactly how I'm going to create my soveriegn as soon as I install the game.  A pre-released manual would be fantastic!

Also, I've been watching these journals for about a year now, and I check them about a hundred times a day.  It's has been like listening to a great sports game on the radio. I'm yelling, cheering, and on the edge of my seat anticipating the next directions in development and bits and pieces of revealing information.

Congratulations, Stardock and Beta testers!  I really hope the stores sell out and the reviews are great!

gui better than original release

out of memory errors not so much.

At this point I  expect a post release rebalancing based on players feedback, since perceptions of min/max seem to have skewed "values".
