Is this the cloth map only beta, or did that (alpha?) already happen?
Of course the cloth map will be in the main game as well, just only when you're zoomed out. However there will be a slider to let you choose at what zoom the change from 3D to 2D happens, so you could theoretically play the finished game on cloth map if you so wish (I know this from watching PAX videos).

Well Spore had great unit customisation. Pity about the rest of the game...
Yes, that's always been true with D2D. They are the weakest link Hmm, I said that. Well, at least I've never watched the show.
So that means that Impulse, you are todays strongest link, and you go away with a growing chunk of the digital distribution market. Thankyou for watching the Weakest Link, goodbye!
Quoting Servius, reply 33Yes an old windows 95 pc is required for beta access. Oh man, I'm cancelling my preorder then.
Who's pulling whose leg? Beta 1 is cloth map based, with probably some temporary text in places. It won't run on a Win95 though, that system is too old to be supported
Given everything else is moddable, I'd be surprised if it wasn't.
...according to BoogieBac! "Encoding the Intro video for Beta 1...very proud of what what we've come up with :) Can't wait 'till next week!" was just posted on twitter [e digicons]\o/[/e]
Me. Want. Now.
The main point is that you don't need to worry so much about lag in a TBS. Demigod needs to by synched really well so that's why they tried the system they did. There's no reason not to do what they are doing with EWOM, but obviously they are giving you your own options as well
In all honesty I do like and listen to some rap/hip-hop, but given that I can't understand music lyrics very well (I have a peculiar hearing defect), I generally prefer tune based music rather than word based music, which cuts out almost all rap and a lot of hip hop
"They called it rap because someone missed off the c" *runs*
While there can be 32 players max in a game, it would be suicidal IMO to have 32 people playing a multiplayer game. A bit of maths - even if all battles are auto resolved, it will take say an average of 5 minutes per turn later in the game x 32 means you would be waiting over 2 and a half hours between turns. And the game will last hundreds of turns. Netaddict's idea might work though.

I think the bandwidth thing has been blown a little out of proportion. Anyone with decent broadband should be fine, but if someone is continually starting games with a crappy connection in some far corner of the world, it would get a bit annoying.

That's weird, I've never had DEP on GalCiv before. Try looking at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875351, that shows you how to stop it doing that. Your pc not booting is nothing to do with the game, period.
I believe you need to do it online, as they obviously have no idea/information from gamestop on YOU personally. Besides the obvious fact that you stated one shouldn't forget that Stardock profits much more from a direct download copy than from retail. (I'm aware though that retail is important as well to get shelf presence)
But the main point still stands that they can't possibly give you a beta if they do
In response to 11, you probably are a superpower - this is more appropriate for the UK, who most definitely have politicians (*cough Conservative Party, UKIP, BNP *cough) who still think we are a superpower
I don't think that this would fit in to the lore. At the beginning of the game only the chanellers have the power of magic, and they can imbue this to other units if they wish. I suppose you could have defecting heroes that get tired of said channeler and go rogue. Anyway I expect it will be easy to mod in. Good modding systems are great - you want a unit in the game -> you mod the unit into the game.
just to make sure i understand it, even though you preorder elemental, it doesnt appear in impulse at all, not in the list or anything, till beta?
Correct. Make sure you have the 'show pre-release versions' box ticked as well. See https://forums.elementalgame.com/363075
If you are doing the second beta in a few months (the first one is cloth map only so it won't affect this) you can see if this really is a problem and tell SD if it is (that's what betas are for).
