Afaik, last I heard (keep in mind that I'm not as active as I used to be) there'd be no LAN. All multiplayer will take place on Stardock's servers. On the number of players, I'd say that multiplayer with anything less than 8 players would just be strange.

You know what this forum could use? Spoiler tags. I've got so much to say about how great this game is, but I can't say it, out of fear of spoiling someone. I almost daren't read the other comments so far. Game is great. Loving it.
