The hard decision for me was to decide whether I pre-order the boxed special edition (with artbook, CDs, DVD, figurines) or the online deluxe version (with Babylon). I bank on the fact that Babylon will be offered as DLC later. Can't buy two copies of the game. :)

I have no idea why this didn't come up when I searched for it a couple of weeks ago, on two separate occasions. It only displayed the Ultimate edition. Appreciate it. :)

I believe it only comes with a PDF manual anyway. The box is likely to only have a leaflet with credits and technical instructions. (I pre-ordered the special edition box, which comes with a 170+ pages artbook, two soundtrack CDs, a DVD, and some figurines, but it's 70 Euro, and if it wasn't for my Civ collection, I'd certainly not shell out that much.)

But then I bump into games that make me feel exactly like I did back in the 80s and early 90s when I encountered and played classics like MoM

I've been looking to buy the expansions (already have the base game, bought it when it came out), but Impulse doesn't offer them separately. I wonder if the only way to get them is by buying the bundle, and essentially purchasing the same game twice.

Yes, this is correct. You can download it as many times as you want, and install it on as many computers as you want (but only play on one machine at a given time). The downside is that you have to run Steam whenever you play, even if you only play in single-player mode, and that if Steam goes belly up, you may not be able to play at all (they claim that they would then unlock all games). Buying the game in the store pretty much only gives you the box, a Steam code, and the initial files. The

I think it irks me that they picked one of the "core" civilization for that. Babylon was part of all four Civ games (in Civ4 in the expansion), and now it is for pre-order customers of one specific vendor only. I usually play as Aztec or Babylon, so I'd probably care less if it had been another civilization, but to me it is a core component of the game/series. But anyway, matter of different views. I'm not going to buy the same game twice just to get the box/artbook/DVD/CDs and the civ. I hop

Vista was an irresponsible resources and performance hog. I had it on one machine, and replaced it with XP after a few weeks. W7 was wonderful right from the start, and seeing that half of my boxes run on Linux, it does take a bit for a Windows OS to actually impress me. :) As for Civ5, well, I pre-ordered it and waiting for the 24th to come! Nearly cancelled it because of Steam, but I guess in the long run it's not avoidable unless I skip some major titles, for pretty much no actual

[/quote] I felt that the game tried to be both a good RTS and a worthwhile RPG, and ended up falling short in both areas. It wasn't a terrible game, and the setting (the world) was interesting, but it suffered from the "neither fish nor foal" problem that is common with hybrids. In the second game, the focus was a bit more on RPG, which in turn made the RTS part even worse. But it's definitely wo

I actually don't know how I feel about the removal of the stacks. Pretty much everyone in this thread (I probably missed some posts) seems to welcome this. I wonder how well the AI will handle this, though. I really don't play TBS games online, so the quality of the AI is an important aspect for me.

Interesting that these older but fantastic games are now re-released. It says a lot about the current games in this genre! :) I just noticed that GamersGate now has MoO2 listed as well, so Atari seems to have made that one available for digital distribution too. Certainly another game that I would like an authentic sequel of (let's just not talk about MoO3).

I have all three games, but if they release it on Impulse or GamersGate, then I'll buy AoW:SM for a second time -- in the vain hope to encourage the publisher to finance a sequel. Naive, perhaps, but the AoW series is one of my favourites and there's little else I can do to help the chances of a continuation. :) Steam is better than no digital release, but yes, I'd definitely prefer Impulse or GamersGate. Edit: Just saw the post about it also hitting Impulse. Good news!

I only played about an hour, so there's not much to say yet. It's definitely a humourous game that parodies typical fantasy cliches in a bit of a slapstick fashion. I actually laughed a few times. Combat so far seems pretty straight forward: You move on the "world map" (accurate proportions, like in King's Bounty TL and AP) in real-time, and when you encounter an enemy, the game switches to turn-based mode. Unlike in KB or HoMM, you stay on the world map, so there is no zooming into a tactica

Is ToEE being sold anywhere digitally? I didn't see it at GoG or GamersGate, and I can't find my boxed copy.

Interesting, because I'm generally also a fan of isometric views, but in The Witcher it doesn't work for me. Hard to put in words, it just felt awkward, so the OTS camera mode it is. :) I saw that a sequel has been announced for 2011. I hope the console versions won't dumb down the whole game (might mean that I won't need a new video card just to play it, though). The books are brilliant, by the way. I learned, though, that only two books have been translated into English, which is al

Hmm, so no one seems to have played it yet. I did a bit more research and learned that the game stems from a German studio and is sort of a spin-off of an unreleased RPG (Grotesque). It was made and released to help generate funds for the development of the RPG. There have been some German reviews, which all sounded fairly positive. I just bought the game at GamersGate (10% discount right now) and will give it a whirl. Will post my impressions in a few days. :) 635 MB is moderately sm

I've never quite understood why games polarize so much. Why can't both titles be great? Games aren't monogamous relationships, you can guiltlessly enjoy more than one at a time! :)
