A bit of praise

I am currently downloading Fallen Enchantress and look forward to giving it a try. I am doing this because I received an email from Brad Wardell reminding me that I bought the Elemental game TWO YEARS ago. After this amount of time, I hardly even remember owning it and thought the email was possibly spam. But after some time thinking about it, I do, in fact remember having the game and the issues I had with it. I remember that my #1 problem was I had a 64 bit OS and Elemental would not play on it. I remember trying to get support for the game to help me figure out what to do and I remember them saying there was nothing to be done. So in essence, I now owned a game I could not play and that was that. The game went into a box and got stowed away somewhere to be forgotten. And I really did forget all about it. I never even checked my stardock account for any updates.

Then out of the blue, I receive this e-mail in which Brad explains in a very candid manner how much of a disappointment the game was to gamers as well as the developers/Stardock themselves. Brad basically says,(paraphrasing) "Hey, We know you bought Elemental and we know you thought it sucked. We made a new game that is much better and we are actually proud of. I sincerely hope you will forgive us for the poor quality of Elemental and accept my apology by accepting a free copy of Fallen Enchantress."

Now as I said, I am just now downloading it and have not played it. But I will say this. Firstly, apology accepted. Secondly, Any company that will man up like this and go to these lengths to please a customer... a customer from TWO YEARS ago... deserves a break and I wish them great success because that kind of work ethic and customer care is a rare thing indeed. Whether I find Fallen Enchantress to be good or bad at this point is irrelevant to me. Stardock and Brad Wardell deserve kudos for doing right by the customers and that goes for whether FE hits it out of the park or falls short. The gesture itself is worthy of praise.

Thanks Brad!

Thanks!

And FE will take advantage of your 64-bit system. ;)

If you were interested in WoM, I think you'll like it. It's a solid game, significantly changed and improved.

It's nice to see a compliment. I don't think Stardock gets enough praise for their efforts, both in terms of customer satisfaction and as a developer.

You'll almost certainly like the game.

Paradoxically, the fact that Brad was going to give buyers of WoM a free copy of FE (it had been mentioned a few months ago) was the chief reason why I pre-ordered the game on Steam. I would not have shown interest in FE if that offer had not been made. I'd eventually have played my free copy, but there was no shortage of interesting titles this year, and WoM really wasn't a good experience. FE, however, is  -- and I'm glad Stardock did not give up on the actual concept or the setting.

Any company not only owning up to their mistakes (which is rare enough), but also putting the money where their mouth is, deserves my money and continued loyalty. So, that free copy resulted in a sale.  :)

I finally got to sit down and play the game and I am liking it so far. I must be, because I had to force myself to stop playing or not get any sleep before work the next morning. Thanks Brad and Stardock!

Here here -- same story for me.  I was pretty disappointed the first time around, and was nicely surprised to find that e-mail in my inbox, especially when I wasn't even expecting it.

And to top it off, I think the game is great! (Caveat: I would like to see a little bit of polish in spots  )
