Good news on the performance issues having been corrected! The memory leaks have been preventing me from playing a lot more lately, so i'm definitely looking forward to the patch. Thanks for all the hard work you guys are doing! It is appreciated. :)

I think the old manuals just added to the whole experience, setting and creating the atmosphere. But maybe that's just old school thinking and most people just want to play a game, not have a more "complete", immersing experience. For example, I finally decided to pick up The Witcher, an RPG that I had wanted to play for a couple of years. Bought it at GG for twenty Euro, and now I'm facing a 11 GB download. That'll take me a few days since my connection is slow and I need it for work
By my standards Divinity 2 isn't even an RPG, it's an adventure game!
I haven't played it yet (it's on the list), but what about Divinity 2 makes it not an RPG? On a side note, I've had major trouble getting back into party-based RPGs ever since the later games of the Ultima series, and especially Ultima Online. Yes, I know, it's been well over a decade, but somehow party-based RPGs just don't work for me anymore.

Actually, they did make a few posts since Saturday. Brad, for example, posted from his vacation location. "Elemental" is a little "green", but on my system it's not a "buggy mess". Like with all Stardock games, there will be many updates and content patches over the next few weeks, months and years. It's also possible to play more than one game at a time, especially since there are so few fantasy TBS titles coming out anymore. :(

I recall seeing a post by Brad where he said that the (increasing) costs for cities didn't turn out to be fun, so this was scrapped. I didn't play the beta, so I have no first hand experience with it. Personally, I'd like to see at least a fixed cost for additional cities so that spamming them has a distinct downside.

I find it a little disheartening to see that every thread with a positive attitude gets dragged down by a discussion about the "issues". The topic started even wrote that his friend visited at his place and they looked at the game together. That should have provided a pretty good first hand impression of the game.
If you like the features the game promises. If you liked Age of Wonders you probably like this one.
I would compare it more to Civ than to AoW. AoW is closer to the HoMM series, the King's Bounty games and the Disciples titles. Elemental focuses much more on world building and techs than on actual tactical battle (which currently doesn't really compare to the aforementioned games). The game is worth buying if you're in it for t

Isn't online authentication considered a form of DRM? Mind, I'm fine with it, and prefer it much over the conventional methods like SecuROM, Starforce (I won't buy games with it), etc., but it's more DRM-y than, say, a plain DVD that can be freely copied.

Personally, I find it exciting to participate in the evolution of a game. Elemental is new and fresh, and there are almost daily patches and improvements. The community is very active and there is a lot to discover. This is probably a turn-off for people who don't want to get frequent patches and changes, and don't really want to find solutions for possible issues. Still, I really like how vibrant everything about Elemental is right now, and that is, was and would be enough for me to pick up
If you wanted a game where you full rush everyone, play a RTS.
If an AI is only decent or challenging if you play the way the AI expects you to play, then the AI is "not so good". A diverse, strong AI is crucial for a game that focuses on single player. Otherwise, you might just play against other people and not bother with playing against the machine at all. I haven't played too much yet, so I don't have an Elemental specific opinion about the AI so far. Just wanted

I'm not overly familiar with Windows 7 yet, so looking for a bit of help here. When I open a folder in the file explorer, the contents show immediately, but the address bar (that shows the current path) is underlayed with a green progress bar that slowly fills. Until it is full (and some time after) and disappears, I cannot sort or access the files in this particular file explorer window. What exactly is the OS doing here and how can it be turned off? In a folder with 200+

Oh. I ordered it at the Stein'sche Buchhandlung (usually get my books from them or from Lehmans). I'm not a huge fan of Amazon, so whenever possible I try to look for alternatives. I can wait a few extra days, so that's fine. Looking forward to the book! [e digicons]:meow:[/e]

On my system (P 2.6 Ghz, two cores, 4 GB RAM, GTS 250, W7 x64) the game slows down progressively the longer I play. Note that "the longer I play" doesn't necessarily mean "turns". Just playing a little and then letting it sit for a while will result in sluggish behaviour. Units on the screen "skip" when moving. Restarting the game fixes this temporarily. Looks definitely like a memory leak. (Patches have been coming in quickly with lots if improvements, so I'm hopeful that this will be addres

Well, I pay more for games now than I did twenty years ago. Pretty much twice the price (has a lot to do with the Euro conversion, though), and I get a lot less in terms of material goods. I slowly wrap my mind around digital distribution and acknowledge some advantages. ;) But it's not about the money for me. I'd not mind paying extra for a ring-bound manual (I can print PDFs, but the quality is nowhere as good). You don't even get them with CEs. Most games don't come with an in-dept

My (German) bookstore still lists it as "pre-order". :( I did order it, but so far no sign of it. Not being in the US probably adds a few days or weeks, as usual (unless it's popular stuff).
