I think, based on the quality of troops you presently get even a rank 4 city will get taken out by an assassin demon or something like that. I would just like the militia to get slightly better equipment as you go through the tech tree, not the best, but the second best gear. Maybe they could add a civic defense tree in the civilization tech line and tie it to built structures, then it's at least a little harder to buff your cities too much.

Stacks of Doom, not so scary when you can freeze it on the map for 3 turns (I don't think they can resist, I have frozen everything), and then pillar of flame it or whatever else into ashes. See Rvgr's reply. I am actually more worried about the AI getting good at that. I will develop a strategy of rolling outposts to get within 5 squares of the city and send in my shock troops and then a lone troop to take the city. That's my take on how to take someone else's territory.
Umm, I haven't built one, so let's start with that. I have fought no less than 5 of the enemies though and I dodge every single attack they ever did, against my homemade archers. Granted, I build my archers with dodge, but there were probably 12-15 attacks in all and they didn't hit once. Are you sure they are better than an arcane archer built with the best longbow, with ice and fire necklaces, a ice ring, and built in a fully enchanted heart of fire fortress? I think not
Can't hate names because modern companies abuse the heritage for marketing purposes lol Many are not derived from English, like Isolde, so is old probably did not occur to Wagner. As for not liking the name, custom faction, change it, voila.
Shrink for the win! Also, unlock magical apparel and whatnot. You can have 75% fire resist and high dodge that deals with dragons I think. I have tanked a dragon with a melee hero and two healers. The dragon killed itself in the end. If that bug is ever fixed, I still would have won. Shrink and healing.
Every special ability fails against magic immune creatures. Snake special bit fails, thrown daggers fail, every special ability fails. I don't think they take poison damage either but I can't recall.
Haven't tried them. Are they just melee? +5 mana per kill sounds like a recipe for arcane archers to me. I have monks as per somebody else's suggestions Monk Staff, Monk Robes with all the dodge traits and built in a well enchanted buff fortress city. They kick butt. As the Pariden race I get -1 hp per level I think, doesn't seem to bother these guys.
This is a problem in every strategy game. I would like city militia to be buffed with the 2nd tier weapons and armor, ie, not chain if that's the best you have, but leather. In my latest game, just on challenging, I border two empires, one of them the second biggest, but despite having a large map with 8 total people on it, I have a massive empire with 14 built cities, 7 or 8 outposts and quite a few land areas to dig into (special locations). I have about 6 of those elite Arena&#
Would love items sets. Also, how about dual wielding? Mostly what I want is for the campaign to be continued.
There are staffs that give a plus to magical power and damage and don't hit your initiative. I take your point though, there should be an advantage to not having anything equipped. I don't want to take over your thread but do the crit chances and crit damage on daggers carry over to spell casting with the daggers in hand?
Umm, it shouldn't require an advance in programming, the version of Sid Meier's Pirates that I play on 3.5" disk has a hall of fame that keeps your scores.
I have monsters on dense because I love the exp for killing them, but I hate building defensive troops, so in my most recent game I lost two cities, one that was at level 3 to wandering mobs. I have never lost my capital yet, but that's mostly because I have killed everything around it within the first little while. Maybe the AI doesn't prioritize taking out the camps.
There is a level 9 champion that is now within my territory that I can recruit, he has path of mage and path of warrior. I get the path of mage thing as he is apprentice in 3 schools of magic, but he has no melee traits to go with path of warrior.
Quoting Warsoullord, reply 6Regarding blocking with cities, isn't there a manual placement mode for city development? There is. You can find it in the 'Advanced Options'.
and it rocks! Snake your way towards resources way before you border would normally extend that far, especially with an AI city not too far away. Keep in mind, you cannot build within 4 tiles of another city
I get this too but it's only temporary when I am zooming in and out of the map.
There is a monster, is it wraiths that regain hp on kills? It's an Empire race, does that work? Trolls regen every round. I know that's different, but that definitely works much to my mage's dismay.
I use it if I am in a fight that's going to take maybe 5 rounds, so yes, I use it a fair bit.
Can't wait, I run into crashes if I reload too much. I will play some hardcore ironman game after I have learned the basics of the game, but the wiki is woefully incomplete. I am taking notes, but my attention to detail really sucks lol
I think perhaps in the magic tech tree you should be able to unlock additional summons, maybe to a total of 4 by the end. But seriously, the game is not balanced for a mage with 4 elementals and whatever other troops you may have. I guess that's why it is limited to 1.
Yep, I turn off that victory condition. The towers are still awesome to build though. I guess I get the concept, but it should be later in the tech tree. The one time I used it I was already at war with the only other faction I had found (Tarth was somewhere I hadn't been yet) so I don't know what happens, does the AI declare war?
Well, I finally managed to bill the Great Mill before the AI and the only person/thing doing anything there is a mouse. I guess the people are all on an extended lunch break.
I can't remember if this is the game, but sometimes pulling back the fog of war will show something that has already happened. By the way, I kill every empire hero I run across on the map (never play Empire lol) just to deny them. Skip the free hero pickup, I have played 3 full games and 2 partial ones now and the only starter hero I ever found was the one where you spawn. By the time I unlock level 5-9 I have more than enough money to pay them. Unless you are playing a me
I got that as well. I think the problem was that the map was too narrow, so they were in a space that wasn't technically part of the tactical map. My guy was shooting from the far left behind some mountains. I think it is just troop placement. The annoying thing was it was my most powerful melee character and I had to fight twice in that map location.
Oh, so in the scenario don't just grab the first ones you see?
Just be glad you can lol, I don't think you could in WoM, if they even got injured back then, they may have just died. I just remember heroes becoming permanently gimped, but maybe I was missing something.
