I have mixed feelings about DA:O ... I do like how it's more tactical like BouldersGate, but sad there's no multiplayer such as what was available in BouldersGate or Neverwinter Nights. The majority of content creation comes from the multiplayer community... so while there's a better a game editor it will never come near providing as much user made content, areas, and modules as what we see with Neverwinter Nights. Obviously any forum members on the Alpha testing will be silent.
And yes the size of the chessboard affects strategic options, I can't disagree with that. But I'd also argue that a 10,000x10,000 chessboard wouldn't really make chase more strategic than a 1000x1000 chessboard, for the same reason that increasing the size of a map in a game like Elemental wouldn't make it more strategic. The human mind is not capable of dealing with such vast quantities of information. With a small board an e

The majority of information I've heard on Windows 7 has been good news, unlike the Windows Vista. I will most likely setup one or more of my systems to triple boot to include Windows 7 sometime this year.
Well, I can surely see that different players prefer different mapsizes and number of players in-game, but im sure we can all agree on that Elemental will be the event of the year for us TBS gamers!
Comparing a game like Elemental to Chess is a bad analogy.
Of course Chess provides significantly less options than Elemental, but for you I always have to use the most basic comparisons available. These are both TBS games and the main differences is one has only two players, fixed amount of units, no diplomacy, no magic, no structures, etc., etc., which are all extra variables which reduc
I'm not convinced that bigger maps are inherently more strategic, ...
The very fact that the exact opposite is also true validates bigger maps are more strategic. Take a super super tiny map and the strategic options are clearly very limited. I've played with many chessmasters and any of them will clearly tell you the number of strategic choices would greatly increase if an additional 6
I completely agree with kryo... the current community is the foundation of the games fanbase. Our satisfaction or dis_satisfaction will be voiced not only here, but with family, friends and on other forums. If the game provides great fun and stability I'll be expressing my thoughts not only here, but other game forums. All very important to the sales of the game itself.
But imagine this kind of beta instead: Beta 1 in August Beta 2 in January Beta 3 in May Gamma (private) in July Release in August. So what would be the point of this? The point would be to make it a lot more fun to develop the game with the beta testers. Rather than have v1.0 come out in February and then have v1.1 in say April and so on, we simply keep working on the game with the beta testers.
Just because I have 5 ways of moving a knight from point A to B doesn't mean I have 5 strategic options if all of those boil down to the same end effect. The tactical execution of a strategy may get more complicated with a bigger board, but I'm not convinced there are signifcantly more actual strategic options. Anyway, neither here or there. Regardless, pretty much everyone would agree that we'd like the ability to
