Hello there. I also enjoyed reading your review (although at times I found it a tiny bit too verbose -- I mean this merely as constructive criticism! Sometimes less could be more, but that is merely my opinion.) You did a good job, only very few typos. I have a couple of questions, if I may. I am still one of those people who are greatly inhibited by what seems to be a very hefty pricetag for this game. Hence: 1. I have only seen one more review of this expansion (the on

I don't see how this would create a "lot" of micro at all. Even if you have two dozen towns or so, and even if you want to transport food from half of them to the other half, I don't see how, with even a halfway decent UI, you should need to be more bogged down than if you were moving a dozen units. Compared to games in which you need to shuffle scores of units across the board on every turn, moving some food about every now and then should be a piece of cake, and much more of a
Quoting Anguille, reply 39 Quoting TheBirthdayParty, reply 38I ended up trying Armada 2526. Waste of money. Was bored very quickly. Much too simple. with or without Supernova? Without, but I do not see how the game could be improved unless it was drastically changed.
I have rarely been so turned off by a game that
I realize I am the only one who thought having champions die was not in need of fixing. I would prefer champions to die, that for me heightens immersion and makes champions feel more important. Protecting them is now one less thing to compute. Two yeares ago, I remember Brad citing those fantasy novels whose name escapes me at the moment (Game of Thrones?) as inspiration for the world, and while I didn't find those books particularly enriching (I purchased and read 3 of them in my p
Sure, let them starve, always an option. I am talking about a mechanism which would let you CHOOSE how you regulate your resources by weighing benefits and disadvantages.
I think you are thinking of Domions 6!
Good! I am glad you are postponing beta and taking more time. There is nothing wrong with waiting when it makes sense to wait.
I can totally understand the new concept: Food is now local, no longer a global resource. I can also understand many of the reasons why the development team wants to implement this. But can we have a fairly simple mechanism by which grain surplus can be transported at cost to our other towns under certain circumstances? Example: - 1 Unit of grain can be transported 5 tiles for 1 gildar IF tech "transport" or "trade" (or equivalent) has been researched. This would incre
Thanks. The price tag of DW is still making me hesitate, while Armada is not. After reading things about Armada elsewhere, however, I am not sure I understand what makes it better or different than other games already out there, such as Space Empires V. Can someone, especially one who really likes it, tell me briefly why Armada + Supernova > SEV? Thanks much!
I frequently come across (gaming) software which requires me to have a physical copy of the medium (e.g. DVD) in the drive for me to play it, and despise that. This might sound strange, but I would like to be entitled to be able to purchase a non-localized version of the game in my country of residence. That is to say: Stop the practice of sub-contracting out distribution rights to distributors selling localizations in countries (such as Germany) which claim a monopoly for locali
Hey thanks much! To be honest, I had already perused those sites, and none of the jokes on them meet my criteria. My guess is that if you have read those, and if you found any of them humorous, and if you have been socialized in the US, that you might not be able to comprehend that a six-year-old who has not spent his life watching American television cannot understand them. Thanks much for your time and effort however! EDIT: No, the Olivekids site I did not see yet! Th
My son is 6. I told him a pirate joke and he wants more. But I don't have any more. I googled "pirate joke" and got garbage. Can anyone help me out? Obviously, it needs to be something that is neither totally gruesome nor totally raunchy, and it should be funny, and it should be understandable to a person who is not socialized in the US (e.g. not based on puns involving commercials or US-consumer goods, which all of the sh*t I found via google is; we live in Germany). Thanks in ad
Hmn, interesting distribution policy. I will not buy a localized product, no matter how high its quality, because I will not support the kind of sub-contracting that developers give to the German distributors. I hate the fact that they refuse to give us Germans a choice; the Witcher, for example, you could get as a digital download from, for example, Steam or Impulse -- but you could not download the English original version in Germany, you get an error message, "this product is not a
Thank you for that encouraging response. I await the news of how (what client) and when eagerly. Thanks!
Thanks. It is, however, against my religion to purchase localized versions of games. I will not purchase a Germanized version of anything, I do not wish to spend my afterlife in hell.
OK thank you. I'll trust you on that, Island Dog. It sounds like Impulse is being replaced with something new then .... right?
I just followed the link to the Distant Worlds site in the OP, and was surprised to see no mention of an expansion. The price was listed as 31.99 EUROS for the digital download only version of what appears to be the vanilla game with no expansion. (I live in Germany so I will need a digital DL, not having anything physical shipped here.) That seems like a steep price, is it available on Impulse or something for less, with expansion, or is it still "new"? It got quite unfavorable reviews, whic
Sorry, I have been out of it for a while. I have not played Elemental since about 3 weeks after its release, and I have not used the Impulse client to update or download any programs since then. IIUC, Impulse is now being run or has been sold to Gamestop. I am not clear on what that means exactly even after having read two dozens threads on that matter on this site. My question here is this: When FE comes out sometime next year, barring the possibility that its release will be
It's many of these things at once. It is good for us, it is a good business move for Brad, it is kind, it is responsible. But it's not "free", any more than the spam offerings of "free" trials of (insert service of your choice) stuff is free. "Without additional monetary expenditures" would be more accurate in FE's case. That said, I am happy that Brad is making this business choice! Back on topic, I really do not see anyone really wanting multiplayer. Isn't that inter
Sounds "promising" for sure! The only thing I would not put resources into is Multiplayer. We all have good multiplayer games on our machines, we are looking for some good SP action with that famous Stardock AI. I can imagine that making multiplayer work with tactical battles is a real hassle.
Ya I feel a little cheap when I hear I will get FE for free. MissTittus? Really, that's a name? New ground you are treading here! I like the flavor text and the various traits. I found it odd that the "Natural leader of men" has a charisma of 6, while a spider has one of 10. Charisma doesn't come off well in FE yet either, does it?
A big objective is for the world to seem alive and interesting worth exploring. Each tile should mean something. Every expansion to your empire a victory.
</p
I share DSRaider's fears that the factors inherent in the current game scheme now which you, seanw3, have pointed out, will not be enough to make cities feel different. If FE really wants to be so much like Civilization all of a sudden (and I do not understand the reasons behind it, although I can guess at some of the causes, that is, 1. why make something new when you can use something already tried and proven, and 2. Derek obviously has a very large affinity for and history with
Every time you reveal a developer's journal, it is looking more and more like Civilization! I am guessing the majority of your fans approves of this, and I am in the minority :-(
Wow I couldn't agree less. Having an empire with each city having the same things in it (one of that, one of this, one of those) I find boring and unfun, it is by far the single most boring element of the Civilization series, to me. I would like to have the OPTION of building more than one type of building, not the NECESSITY of it.
