I am not afraid of depth as an old Total Annihilation fan :) I also like stuff like Majesty, CIV IV, Master of Orion I/II, so any good strategy game is to my taste :d I actually have a game in my head too, but I am a bit too lazy, and not the greatest programmer. It has elements from majesty, rpg gaming and it is generally well suited as a webbrowser game.
joasoze
Sounds a lot like settlers. It will be rather chaotic if you have to protect all these "peaceful" units in an RTS?
The AI gets incremental improvements all the while. I would guess that the final AI work will be done in beta 5 and 6.
The frog says he is pushing for a beta 5 and 6, but we might be finished at the end of beta 4. Only time will tell. AI can make or break a game like this (broke Warlock for me).
Since FE is on a break, and Warlock is getting old fast (due to bad AI, the rest is pretty cool), are there any other alternatives? Any strategy games that has gone under the radar lately?
They could swap an AI for a UI or something :) Warlock is an AI from being a top game. FE will become a top class game eventually.
Battle Isle II and III stole a lot of my life in my youth
The good thing is that we will know if its worth buying or not. The xboxers will test it for the pc users.
In no particular order: CIV IV Master of Orion II Kings Bounty Crossworlds Total Annihilation Heroes III
All we need is a lets play video by seanw and we will know if we should buy ;)
@Kongdej - I was being polite ;)
Sorry for the threadjacking :) @Heavenfall. I havent excactly spent hours planning how Umber should be special, it was from the top of my head. I just wish that someone (a modder if not Stardock) will make Umber a fun faction to play as I love them. I am 25% Umber on my mothers side :d Thanks for reading it.
Umber is missing some faction specialities. Like being able to use wolf/horse resource for food. Some special weapons and such. I wrote a long post about Umber history a while back. hoping to inspire Stardock, but to no avail. Her is the forgotten post :) https://forums.elementalgame.com/425481
@seanw3. Could you maybe go and help the Warlock developers with some better AI as well ;) I hate having a good game ruined by lack of AI
People are waiting for Beta4 and playing other games for a while methinks. I am testing Warlock: Master of the Arcane, but the fun is diminishing due to lacking AI. Could we mod in full Umber faction if Stardock fails...?
As I play this game more, I have realized that you only play against the environment (monsters, neutral AIs) and AI that are waiting for you to come to them. The AI will never come with any kind of problematic attack, and if you are patient you will ALWAYS win, even on impossible. Its rather disappointing and ruins the game for me. When I play FE, CIV IV, Kings Bounty and such, I set the difficulty high so that winning is an achievement (in other words, I get wasted by the AI most of the time
I think FE is a great game on its own, and its difficult to compare with MOM. I like both games, but they are from different eras. I also have high hopes for FE to become a real classic that other games will be compared to in the future. If they only include Umber it will be perfect ;)
Infidel! Bow or be crushed in multiplayer! Even my custom Umber sovereign can eat you as luch :d The special faction abilities are for weaklings!
If I want to turn on the AI sees through FOW, where do I go? Would be interesting to change only that and see how much harder challenging becomes.
@seanw3. CIV IV is far better than CIV III, you must misremember ;)
I am sorry but Capitar lost The Game of Thrones, and its former king can be found in the moat of the Umber castle Greendale :d
It would put a smile on my face forever, and my wifey would suspect that I was cheating on her. :d
I've set E:FE aside until Beta 4. It would also be nice to see a spell that is late in the spell tree, which as a community event, after enough castings, gives joasoze the ability to play with Umber as a defined faction. I'm not entirely sure, but I think he may have mentioned once or twice that it would be an ok thing to have Umber back.
Made me smile with that one, would really make my day
I won on normal (first try), then on the level above on my first try. Now only impossible is left. The game really needs a better AI, but its still fun. I would like to have a survival mode where the goal was to conquer the wild :) With no other AI players than the monsters.
I am not happy about this. We have been through faction differentiation, but still some factions dont really work as intended (henchmen that can be designed, but not built and so on). I would have thought that they could have made a bugpatch so that we could test more while the new beta is on the way. But what do I know.... And bring Umber back..
Color me interested!
