In a perfect world, the timeframe for progeny would scale with map size. Because yes, playing aggressively on a medium map, the game is usually over long before I see my kids or can make use of any dynasty oriented diplomacy functions. Or at least, I'm mopping up and past the point of *caring* about any of these things. I'd love to see it scale with maps size to ensure a somewhat more uniform game experience, despite the length of game you want to play.
Pc Games have always had bugs. Not all games (not even most) were considered "buggy as hell" (severely affecting playability). And when they were, people were just as pissed about it. We just have far more efficient means to complain about things these days, for better or worse.
I know very little still about Desktop X. I'm wondering if, for the purposes of a graphical re-skin, it would be more efficient to simply change the appearance setting of an existing element in the "states" tab of the properties menu with a new graphic file, rather than importing an entirely new object and deleting the old one. 1) On the one hand, that seems likely to increase the file size of the Dxpack, as they don't seem to simply reference an image file

You may have had a sound point behind your reasoning, but that statement is kind of out there. <
Ah, good news. You can definitely mod those DX objects in the screens folder. I didn't bother to set anything up as a proper mod, but I was able to open those files in the screens folder in Desktop X, switch to "Builder mode", mangle things up a bit, then export that object directly over top of the original file. The changes reflected in-game: <img src="http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/4224/elescreen.jpg" alt="http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/4224/elescreen.jpg"
So there's still no way to mod the UI? I would desperately like to get at the UI graphics for this game.
I love the custom unit creation/equipping aspect. It's really remarkable that you build that into the game. I just wish the supporting gameplay provided a bit more meaning and variety to the choices made there beyond "higher attack and defense is better".

I'm not opposed in principle, but I'd prefer the same amount of money that went into making all these movies, went in to making content instead. Movie fluff is worth a "gee whiz" the first time you see it, and skipped evey time thereafter ( which the game hopefully lets you do...otherwise movies become a curse). Content is forever, and pays dividends in every single game. I'm not saying "no movies". I'm just saying in the end, theyre not that important.

Escape should bring up an options menu. If it doesn't, this is a bug, and you should file it as such along with relevant system reports. Try looking through the threads first to see if there is an existing applicable thread to post in about it. You can reach the same options menu by clicking the crown icon in the bottom left of the screen, then hitting "options" in the screen after that, and going to "Main menu" which should have an exit option.
I think I'll have to look into this XSI mod tool as well, thanks Bingjack.
Well, if you're lucky enough to have a current copy of Max, it'not something you're likely to benefit from. When Valve *really wanted* people to mod their game and new Source engine, they worked with softimage to release a free version of the soft as well as export tools for the community, and it paid off well. Obviously, Valve/Half Life 2 is a high water mark in community modding.
Modding 3D assets at this point *looks* like it's going to require either Max or Maya. The 3D assets seem to be in a proprietary format requiring some sort of exporter, and those two programs are the only ones mentioned in the Beta 5 schedule. If this turns out to be the case, I think it will limit how much real 3d modding gets done form the game, as those two programs are going to be beyond the "legal" ownership of most players. If this is important to you, you might want
I do think they should have a separate forum for suggestions though. People are really jumping the gun with he sort of suggestions they're offering, compared to the stage of beta we're in right now, and its making a lot of noise drowning out the much more important technical feedback at this point.

I prefer the Malazan series as well. I'm hard pressed to even classify SoIaF as "fantasy", as while the first three books are excellent (not so much the 4th) he seems to really play down the fantasy elements, and would be happier just writing historical soap opera fiction about who's sleeping with who. What can I say...I like my fantasy with Gods and Demons, Undead Dragons, races of Undead Lich swordmasters, assasin Mages, floating mountains, and lots of action :)
