Sounds like Killing Floor.
Beyond the fact that some people just like to jump right in and play, right now the case isn't clear for most of the stock factions, although some factions, if I recall, have bonuses with costs that exceed your ability to completely recreate them as a custom faction (Tarth comes to mind, at least as of 1.6). Understand, the various civs will be getting significant overhauls in upcoming updates and expansions, with a focus on unique abilities and faction differenti
Gobias Industries? or is that supposed to be "Tobias Industries"
It's an Arrested Development reference.
Strategy games and wargames don't need square tiles anymore nor they need hexes, we could have circles and distances now. All those absurdities are the result of an obsolete way of thinking. .
I disagree. Grids are very useful in highly abstracted turn based games, to provide easy digestible chunks of visual information for players to be able to quickly understand the game concepts and *plan* exa
(which should really be called a Sphere of Influence even though it's not a sphere)
You're good. In any application of the term, it is understood it never represents a literal sphere.
I agree with this. ZOC as a gaming term is definately taken. We need a new word for a factions territory/borders.
SOI? "Sphere of influence"? (This has the benefit of actually being the textbook definition for the concept at hand: sphere of influence: A territorial area over which political or economic influence is wielded by on
Heh, I suppose I'm the only one who thinks the one with the jagged outline looks cool. I always play evil civs, and like the idea of my cities looking like cancerous growths spreading on the map.
I think you have sort of a vague stew of tengential anxieties that may be valid and important points to raise in discussions elsewhere, in other contexts. I don't think there's any evidence to support them applying anywhere in this discussion, or at least at the point in which they were inserted into the thread. I think literacy and formal writing skills are beneficial for everyone to have, but game developers have made plenty of excellent games without demonstrating such
I really don't think the liberals/conservatives/democrats/republicans/libertarians/Jews/Muslims/Mormons/illegal aliens/terrorists/socialists/Catholic priests/ Gypsies /anchor babies (insert personally applicable ideological boogeyman du jour) have an agenda for misrepresenting the attack speed of a longsword in Elemental. You keep bringing that point up, but I think we can safely focus our discussion on the scope of the sort of game wiki's involved, which are no more likely to suffer mi
I definitely think damage types and resistances should play a larger role, but I prefer systems with a little more complexity than rock/paper/scissors. I always thought Gal Civ 2 was disappointingly shallow in this regard. So maybe not rock/paper/ scissors, but more like rock/paper/scissors/fire/cold/blunt/slashing/piercing/electrical/death/holy/squirrel. :)
Power Word: Priapism [edit] Aww...thread title changed. This thread has gone flaccid.
Tenser's Transformation
Bigby's Clenched Fist.
EXPECTO DA-BONE-EM!
"Magic Missle"?
PETRIFICUS TOPHALLUS!!!
Two words: Incendiary Codpiece.
You might also combine telepathy and a highly anatomically specific astral projection to make a magical "sexting" spell. You could call it , "The Favre".
What about a spell that turns you into the guy in the Karate Kid who screams, "Get him a body bag!" That guy was a huge...er, "jerk".
[edit] Never mind. I decided this is sort of not worth arguing about. Carry on . :)
You mean like like "Level 3 Viagra"?
6. Flavor is awesome, really try to match the right abilities with the sovereign that it feels right for (if you have a copy of the Heirgamenon it is well worth reading the sections on the 10 leaders).
Any chance of getting this put up on the web in electronic form? I assume you're referring to the collector's ed perk hardcopy. Because the Heirgamenon on the website is limited to tech trees (as far as Ive seen), and the Lore section has portraits of
I never had a problem with the community maintained Gal Civ wiki when it was up to date. It was a much richer source of information than any of the official sources of documentation, detailing not only the game concepts, but in depth analysis of the game mechanics. (Obviously, the devs need to expose these things first, before the community can document them). It would be nice to see a *lot* of things from the devs. But they are a small team, with a finite amount
Any way we can help with it? Probably during the Beta of 1.1, I'd be willing to review stuff / make suggestions /etc (and I am fairly sure many more people here would be willing as well).
Updating the wiki with the changes and keeping it maintained is probably the most useful thing the community can do for game documentation. A comprehensive, well maintained wiki > than any native documentation.
