It's now been suggested to me that my issue was related to saving and re-loading a game within the same session, as I have a dirty cheater's habit of reloading a game after dying if I enter a quest location to complete it, and find it is populated with lethal bulls*** I couldn't have possibly handled. Or if I accidentally click on the wrong square during a tac battle and blunder my way into a loss because of the interface. Or if my sovereign gets ridiculously killed by a bear cub

This was the way it was in WOM, and it was easily exploited. Well, not exploited really, as it was part of the game, but it removed the need for trained units, and allowed players to steamroll the map with early summons. When summons were reigned in a bit, players then moved onto steamrolling the map with Champions. We are just now getting to the point where we might actually want to build armies. Putting back in an easily replenishable source of early game fodder that doesn't requi

Had the exact same thing. I uploaded files for SD earlier today on it. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to apply to all cave bears, as I fought mixed cave bear groups without incident, but a specific lone one would hang the game.

It seems odd there's not a more direct and efficient option, to both deforest, and even grow forests, for city beautification or defensive purposes.&nb
Pretty sure raise (or is that raze?) land will do the trick for you.
Raise Land doesn't mention anything about forests in the description, and raised terrain comes with movement penalties of its own (I think).

I hate the forests so much. So much. Please tell me there's a spell I haven't found yet to remove them in the gameworld when not adjacent to your city. The AI always builds roads through them. Whats the point of having an ecologically devastated world, if you can't count on global warming to kill those awful trees? Summon chainsaw!

I got the same thing, but I couldn't tell if it was intentional or not. I kind of suspected what was supposed to make him unique and difficult was the fact you couldn't use magic or special attacks on it it directly. Obviously, if that is the case it needs to be more clear so it doesn't resemble a targeting error. I will also add, that upon killing the worm, the territory did not open up to be claimed. The sparkly altar says you must build a monument there to claim i

You can download the patch without installing it. Finish your testing in .77 if you wish, and install .85 ( or probably .86 by later today) when you're ready to begin the current testing phase. I dont believe it's possible to install two different versions of the game. You would have to re-install and re-patch to the desired version to roll back.

There's no practical difference between a 50% split and a split by level when grouping low level champs around the same level. The net effect is that they still level too slowly from halved XP gain to be competitive, and standing armies are too costly or f

Also, in case I didn't make this clear when I mentioned it previously, Im not complaining about the build, which sports AI and a challenge level I'm very enthusiastic about, and making me very optimistic for the game. Just reporting on some issues I experienced that can potentially cause your game to grind to a halt in an early stage when that shouldn't ever happen.
@Bingjack: given that experience is split between champions there really isn't a rush to claim all of them around the map. Without more experience, you level up slowly. That's what 0.86 (tomorrow) will address. I can assure you, there's a huge difference when facing a cave bear as a level 4 champion versus level 2. I'm overjoyed to see the game more challenging now, and the AI putting up an actual fight. I'm very happy there's an actual reason to build armies now, whereas before there was none. But something is going to have to be done to keep the early game from grinding to a halt. I recognize the Fall From Heaven influence, where you start off helpless and have to run screaming from everything in sight, and can't stay alive in order to earn xp, until you ca

The hell is a "clambercoil"? Also, do you really need a "special" name for a magic breastplate that... "increases defense", beyond what a normal breastplate would? Isn't that pretty much every piece of "magic" armor, in every game, ever? Why not just "magic breastplate"? Save the fancy names for really special things that have more distinctive characteristics.
