I love the idea of the enemy committing their forces to my seemingly small force, only to be caught in a pincer attack by a much larger, deadlier army that I had in hiding just out of sight. Aside from that though... Not much to add. If they do end up implementing multi-turn combat I hope it makes sense... Like not some 5 turns... (More like 25). I've seen battles between a troll and my Sovereign take 12 turns. So it would take him 2 years to defeat a troll? lol.

I don't like to knock other peoples Ideas... But whats the point in playing a strategy war game if you have no control over the military? It might be fun if you could turn control over to other commanders optionally and then have them control a small portion of your force just for kicks... All in all though, typically if you were to do so, they probably wouldn't be used to their best potential... You know how AI can be. I like controlling my army... I don't like MP ( I know I'

Can't wait for Beta 2... From the sounds of things Elemental will be the last game I need for the next 5 years. I love games that have the kinda legs this thing will have between the community and modability, It WILL be able to be almost anything you want it to be. [e digicons]:smitten:[/e]

I see your point John. One way or the other though, heroes are going to be able to gain access to spells so long as the Sovereign imbues them with essence, this has been known for awhile now. The only difference between what we currently know and the proposal here is that currently heroes may have access to every spell (Saying may because I don't know how combat spells will work), this proposal would limit them to a smaller selection. The scenario you described, and I agree is

@John_Hughes So, they'd still require essence in order to cast spells to begin with and they would still have limited Mana... Besides in the vanilla system where they could cast any spell you'd still have the same basic problem. As for the whole min/maxing thing... I don't think I really follow you. Sure you'd load up heroes with powerful spells, but its your choice... One powerful spell that hero could use once in combat (due to mana restrictions) or se

Agreed, it would also more clearly define the boundary between combat oriented heroes (Dumb but Strong) and magic oriented heroes (Brainy but Puny). Also I agree that only the Sovereign should have access to every learned spell at any one time.

I love this idea and it makes a lot of sense to. Men are not machines... You can't just keep telling them to fight and expect their spirits to be nigh unbreakable. Nothing wearies a mans heart faster then the hell of war and campaigning through the hostile lands of an enemy far from their wives and children and loved ones would definitely impact their fighting strength. Great losses in bitterly fought battles would again have the men suffering from doubts, with each hiccup costing more then j

Can't say that I really care one way or the other if its Turn-based or Real Time... I'm awesome at both. If it were Real Time I'd hope for a Turn based mod... Since it's turn based I guess I'll hope for a real time mod. I just like to change up the rules from time to time to keep things fresh. I like turn-based for the obvious strategic possibilities. I also like Real time because combat feels much more frenetic and visceral in real time. As long as I c

Well to me it all depends on how much they want to "sell" the world to the player. If I'm the Sovereign... And I'm rather sure I am the Sovereign [e digicons];P[/e] . Yet the only even remotely intelligent beings in the world are going to be the other 3, 4, 5 Sovereigns. Who, by the way, I'm most likely going to have to end up killing, sadly. The world is going to feel like a lonely, cold, barren, place, beautiful or not. I gotta see some intelligent A.I. And not just from the Sovereigns, f

I don't really see the distinction there... Sorry Larienna. Nor do I see the need for victory conditions at all. I'd like to play a game that is persistent. A game where whichever path I choose it's the correct one because its the one I chose not because its the one that nets me the most points or will lead me to "winning". I suppose my Idea is to difficult for my meager intellect to explain. Suffice to say I see victory conditions as a whole in a game designed around a living breathing fanta

@Wintersong I understand generally what your saying but the difference is that when an individual is critically wounded in battle they shouldn't be able to manage their kingdom, or fight, or cast spells, or do just about anything besides lie there and recover. Also there is a difference between being badly injured and being on the brink of death. Just because a sovereign is on the brink of death (which in this case could be considered 0 hp) doesn't mean he'll/she'll die because a Sove

To me the idea of victory is somewhat old altogether. For instance in the real world nothing happens in which we simply declare ourselves the winner and that is the end. Why do their have to be "Victory Conditions" at all? To me if your sacrificing countless good soldiers to take over an "enemy" city because he called you a stinky-bottom or some such nonsense you've already lost. That however, would take a strong sense of humanism in a game in order to convey. Is sacrificing the lives of your

Last time I checked this was the Ideas forum... The place where people come to offer constructive ideas and help craft Elemental into a successful game. To the OP, your not being constructive nor helpful, your just whining. I think anyone with even a lick of sense in today's world knows that making anything and I mean ANYTHING truly original is close to impossible. Go ahead try to come up with an original fantasy world... I'll enjoy laughing your idea into the ground. Chances are in order to

These extra game modes sound awesome. I especially like the Sov's chosen... Kinda playing the role of the Sovereign's right hand man rather then the sovereign himself. The Barbarian modes were also awesome ideas. Another awesome Idea would be to combine these ideas with the normal gameplay elements in Multi-player. Like playing a Lan game with a friend where one of you play as the Sovereign and the other play's as the Sovereigns Chosen. He could give you armies to lead
I think this could also be used on a smaller level too. A successful adventuring band, very high level, wants to retire. They sieze a keep from the monsters that have been terrorizing the countryside, and now possess a keep, where they live with their retainers. They should also have a diplomatic standing and relations, as they don't answer to anyone, and could be provoked into taking sides, either with you or against you or in
Really? Now I wish someone had mentioned at some point that beta 1 wasn't supposed to be fun.
Its just human nature Brad... Try not to let it bother you. Quite frankly I'd be surprised if Beta 1 felt like anything at all... Being basically an "Alpha" as it was. We did have plenty of warning that Beta 1 shouldn't be played to have a good time. It should be played to try and h

I kinda like the idea of random administrative quests popping up while your in the city. Especially if the quests are interesting with good consequences. I'd especially like it if you had some kind of quest synergy between combat related quests and administrative quests.

About your points Finneglot let me breakdown some things. For your first point you are basically going between two extremes, the very point of this method is to avoid extremes and find a balanced penalty. As Tasunke has mentioned having your sovereign die would be a serious problem, especially at later stages. For example at level 2 if you die, you might lose 4 permanent essence and take somewhere ar

I've heard varying details on what the general plan is for what happens to your sovereign when he is killed off and none of them sounded completely concrete so I thought I'd just throw out an idea. When your sovereign is killed in battle/assassinated, what have you... Rather then dying a normal mortals death, the sovereign's essence disperses. In effect, you lose your sovereign for the time being, me

Personally I'd like to see a blink spell of sorts for tactical battles. Don't know how useful or viable it would be... Kinda like the Combat version of teleport for short range jumps either into or out of combat. Or perhaps as a defensive spell that you cast and the next few melee attacks that would have otherwise connected are automatical
