Myself I associate 4x with being able to found cities and not using Stacks of Doom.
Then Master of Orion 2 isn't a 4x?
What game does not require you to scroll (circular vs. flat? who really cares?) to navigate the tech tree? Or worse, jump between tabs to see the different areas (more clicky, still have to scroll probably).
There's nothing wrong with scrolling or tabs. Or at worst, they're necessary evils because of the need to represent a large amount of information on a small screen. Circular scrolling gives me headaches...
I played the SotS demo the other day, and it's a lot more fun than I remembered. I don't like the pace or scale of the game, but I understand why others like it. The UI isn't bad apart from the research tree, which gives me headaches. (I had to down an ibuprofin at one point.) At the very worst, it's as bad as that of any other space-based 4X TBS. Fleet management is actually handled quite well.
That a French ballerina got their first? :(
What is the concept of game seconds, though? Why does there need to be a difference...
The game speed affects the rate at which the game updates. It's so the game can be played at different actual speeds without affecting the underlying implementation of the game.

I don't think that's a correct interpretation of how Shakespeare meant it, either. More likely a condemnation of poor laws and corrupt lawyers. But, there's room for the three lines of thought.
Sure, there are plausible and implausible interpretations, but there are also i
"The first thing we do," said the potter in Shakespeare's Henry VI, is "kill all the lawyers." Contrary to popular belief, the proposal was not designed to restore sanity to commercial life. Rather, it was intended to eliminate those who might stand in the way of a contemplated revolution -- thus underscoring the important role that lawyers can play in society.
Butcher, not potter. And that's a terrible reading of that passage. :-p
The UI looks much improved. [e digicons][/e]
I hope not. It's bad enough listening to "The current National Threat Level is..." whenever I happen to be at the airport. I can't imagine they'll choose a more meaningful replacement.
Mass Effect 2.
Watched the Mass Effect 2 reveal trailer recently? :-p
I tried the demo and didn't really like it. Not surprising since I didn't like any of the other Total War games.
More models per unit striking allow them to scale weapons WAY back and still retain their effectiveness, which in turn allows them to re-balance armor. YEE-HAW. NO. A higher Attack and Defense to Hp Ratio is bad for so many reasons. Unit Hp should go up not down. Whats your average unit going to have? 2 Hp and 6 Attack? HP wouldn't matter ever, only defense would.....
Games Workshop disagrees.
Hmm... I think you're right about prepositional phrases since they can be used to construct an infinite number of sentences so long as there's at least one noun and at least one preposition in the language... And I think that if I'm reading the above correctly, saying that a language is nonrecursive is equivalent to saying that it includes a countable number of sentences.
I was thinking along the lines of H5. (I never played H4.)
Ah, I think that I understand what you're saying now. I think that people are getting caught up in the phrase 'logical construct', since science doesn't (obviously) demonstrate logical relationships, only empirical ones. Let me know if this is accurate. Science 'works' means that science's methodology produces conclusions of a certain kind -- namely, conclusions that're consistent with each other and with other agreed upon norms like verifiability, simplicity, etc. In oth
I think that is a misuse of the term 'faith'. Scientists place 'faith' in the scientific method...
I think you're right in that the faith that Swicord describes is an ordinary sort of faith that attends most human interactions. E.g. Most if not all assertions require us to presume (perhaps, take it on faith) that the asserter is sincere. I'll try to stake out a stronger claim for faith in science that goes beyond
Any chance of your getting Rise of the Shadowhand?

You can share unit control through the diplomacy options.
I may be the only one who believes this, but I wish Elemental's backstory were less intrusive and that the factions were good and evil simpliciter. I enjoy fantasy games because they provide an escape from the rationalizing that accompanies everyday decisions. Destroy the magical item or take it for yourself? Do it for the sake of being good/evil.

Congratulations! Sins' place is well deserved! Especially considering the recent boom in 4x RTS games. It's a decent list, besides than the Relic love in. (Or at least the inclusion of Company of Heroes and Dawn of War 2 over Homeworld 2 and Dawn of War.) It'll be interesting to see how this list changes over the next ten years as perceptions change.
