The thing with Stardock's DRM (Impulse) is that I think it effects the following groups of pirates these ways -People who are going to pirate anyways continue to pirate anyways. -People who pirate for the thrill of it generally don't, as there is no honor in pirating a game that -People who pirate because it's the better version don't have to, as the Impulse version is as good or better then any pirated variant -People who buy no matter what will
Quoting arstal, reply 5The counter to the steamroller is probably the desperation game-breaking spells. Why are they "game-breaking"? Not sure if you've played Master of Magic, but one of the victories was a global baniishment spell for the enemy wizards (can't remember if it affected allies or not.) This spell took lots of mana and time (as it was one of the last spells you could research, plus the cast time was
The counter to the steamroller is probably the desperation game-breaking spells. One thing I'd like to see to balance things out- tech diffusion. Instead of tech trading, have it where techs automatically transfer between neighbors based on a number of factors -open borders (closed borders for trading would drastically reduce the odds of this happening) -size of empire (smaller empires would gain effect quicker) -bordering
Didn't work in Civ 4.
One of my issues- in general. Tactical combat will likely make those units more powerful then they would be in turn-based combat. Unsure how this is going to be handled house-rule wise for MP. (and it WILL happen)
I'd love to see some anti-magic nutjobs out there who would go attack mages yelling Bad Magiks the whole time as a random NPC. Would have some buff abilities they could give- provided you didn't let anyone other then your channeler use magic.
Has there been any art designs of the fallen yet? I kinda imagined them as having beastial characteristics- like horns or hooves, but still humanoid.
Forts should be able to harass based on their garrison. The counter to that would be a razing strategy- get some light cavalry, and raze their crops. The problem is TBS games often end up as cavalry/speed-fests, that's something I'd like to avoid with Elemental. Speed tends to kill exponentially in these types of games, and even GCII had major issues with it that were patched throughout, and in a blunt force fashion at the e
So far what I've seen is good, that you can make a knight by making a person, a horse , some armor, and a weapon. However, my question involves the person. Let's say I want to have a theme for an army, like to dress them up a certain way, or have them wear a certain kind of uniform. Would I be able to do that? Would a person be able to control the gender of their armies, like have an all-male , or all-female army. <
I gotta admit I have the same concerns as the other posters. If you can pull this off, WOW. If you can't, this should be a chopped feature. It's not going to be something this game would be remembered for in 10 years.
Question then- what would a better graphics card get you over those Pixelshader 2 cards? I'm still doing my laptop shopping (Yes, I know a desktop would be better, but I need to be able to port this to work to play at work) Just trying to get a nice laptop that will handle this like butter, not overheat, and not cost over $1500. Hard to find though. Stylized art is always something I approve of if it's done well. Character in art is more import
I think that defeats the entire purpose of platforms such as Steam and Impulse. Ultimately those platforms are out there to make money for Valve/Stardock, and encouraging resales is lost business for them, and at a much higher proportional rate then piracy is. The percentage of people buying a used copy who would buy a new copy is much higher then the percentage of pirates who will buy a copy. I do believe that you can get a license for a game cheaper then the game itself
I usually buy my games from GameStop because they have a large selection. But I only buy new copies of games that have been out for a while, so they are cheaper. I've also bought from stores such as Meijer, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, etc... I'm basically a sucker for a game that costs less than $20 when it used to retail for $50-$60 plus. Even when I buy my games from GameStop though, I always buy a NEW copy. No
I think Stardock has said five magic spheres (Elemental Ones+ Life) You can do a lot within those spheres, and some things I wouldn't be surprised if it requires two sources of magic at least somewhat- similar to disciples.
If you want a one on one fighter- I recommend Virtua Fighter.
Mount and Blade perhaps?
Eu needs both XP's to be a good game, but with it the game is very good.

It's the main attraction after all.
Wrong game. That's ST HD remix. and I'll counter with Yoga Yoga Yoga Yoga...
Good article, I emailed him on a few points where I don't think he accounted for all the variables, but I agree with the premise. The problem is I think Steam may have acheived critical mass to the point where they're an 800-lb gorilla, and Stardock will have to be 10 times better to compete 10%. That may be impossible. If Stardock/Valve go out of business, you'll be still able to play the pirated versions. I'm not too worried about th
This leads to the logical questions- how did those horse archer guys get good if they never had access to mounts?
I oppose this entirely, as this ruined Kohan II, and was the reason it tanked, and Timegate really hasn't been heard from since. Kohan I allowed for you to build cities anywhere you wanted, outside of a min distance between cities. That's a better model. Neutral independents/lairs running around waiting to be conquered would make scouting real important. This is a good thing.
If there is Bear cavalry I want a Hero named Takamura as a counter.
Stardock policy is to not charge until you can download it.
Yeah, I have to agree. I have utmost respect and I trust Stardock to make quality products, but no one's perfect. BTW The Witcher does have copy protection on other services. (Pretty sure it does on Gamersgate)
