The technology tree etc will be the same each game. With regard to minor factions, i have seen one in an earlier game version but since updating to 109E i have seen none at all, ever (yes they a
City spam + caravans from each city = no food problem.
Theoretically yes - but in that game where i was starved of food, it was a large map and a long distance between any resources. So I'm not going to get even one full run out of a caravan once established because the animals are going to be falling over each other in the stampede to kill it!

Hi all I have been struggling to achieve a particular way of playing that i want.... My goal is not to win, but to level up and research all the technologies so i can see what can be achieved in the game. I almost succeeded In an earlier game version, on a large map, beginner difficulty, i had half the map and 1 AI opponent who had the other half. I had heaps of hero's in the border city which continue gaining experience with all the silly AI attacks and my sovereign was kept

I have noticed that random maps will usually try and starve you of gold, but one time the map decided to starve me of food, in that case the game did not last very long at all! Food is not something that usually bothers me, but when it does, it has a very big impact (if its early game).
There really is no downside to cramming a city into every corner of the map.
Except wages for garrison forces! A city can produce only +1 guilder without a gold mine, then if you want to build anything useful there it will quickly end up going negative! I suppose if you can have so many cities that there can be no barbarians spawning, so garrison forces are not needed, then it might be a tiny bit beneficial,

I don't know why people think it is reasonable to take items off people you kill in the game? You think if you kill someone carrying a chest of gold in real life, the gold does not vanish too, ridiculous! otherwise how could famous characters like Robin hood have ever managed to steel from the rich and give to the poor if the gold actually remained for them to steal,,,, eerrr um, something not quite make sense here?? (extreme sarcasm alert)
The answer to this really depends on several things: 1) Number of AI and the difficulty setting. Higher difficulty settings give the AI more resource nodes near their start location. 2) Which map. Some of the maps have more land mass that aren't mountains or forest. 3) Which half of the map. Related to 2) and also where AIs are spawned. Sometimes just about all the factions spawn on one half

In my current game on a large map, i have fully explored my half of the world and all in all i have only 2 gold mines. I am thinking this is rather idiotic and it is time for a restart, am i wrong? What is a fair number of gold mines that there should be? Edit: all hidden resource techs have been researched.

I'm still trying to work this one out myself as well? This is what i have discovered so far; In order of importance, It will be useful to build a city on Gold, food, lost library, crystal, tactical crystal (where appropriate to leader) and lost temple. Marble, stone, iron .... all the rest of it, irrelevant! I say irrelevant because no matter whatever game i have played, without fail, i have always had an abundance of materials and iron, honestly, i don't even need to think ab

I haven't noticed it has moved? Also i haven't noticed it has not moved! I just researched the usual tech under diplomacy without paying much attention and i got caravans just fine.

Well Impulse itself takes about 4 minutes to open in the first place on my computer, then probably another 6 or 7 minutes to update Elemental.... I end up skipping the updates because i don't want to wait around, i want to play!

I have 109 update. But for now i want to deal with this issue in my current game as a game play issue and quarantine most of the funds, by giving to the AI or by some other method?

I started a game on easy and medium map with 1 opponent. As the game went on i came upon an enemy pioneer about to claim territory i wanted. We were not yet at war so i started the war by attacking the pioneer. After killing the pioneer i suddenly had millions of guildar in my account? I suppose this is fun, and it is good to be able to get loot but how come the AI carry so much guildar?? Will the AI not function the same without this funds or are these funds something that was never

Also you can build a city at the limit of 'civic duty' range and then use the city as a stepping stone to get across the civic duty blockade and continue the campaign - this really works!
I think one game I played I've found 4 elementium in a goodie hut. Armor that uses this stuff is useless because you can never find enough of it. It would be nice if at some point in the game (say with some research) it was made available to buy at some ridulous (but still in the ball park) price, so that maybe we could outfit at least 4 to 6 guys/troops or so with it, instead of none.
Perhaps you can buy some from the Ski

Thanks for all the ideas, now there is this new 109 patch, i wonder will it change things much? As for food, i had an abundance of food, owing to the fact that i had a city with three farms plus all the farm upgrades, guilds etc and two farming heroes there as well! Food knows how to show respect to multipliers, Guilders do not!

Throughout history there are examples of heavily armored units with archer capability. The only reason most archers in history are not heavily armored is because of the efficiencies of specialization - expense being the main reason, ease of movement would be another reason also but certainly not insurmountable not by a long shot!

Civ4 has a good system against city spamming.... yes you can city spam but only in your own region. If you try and city spam in someone eases region you will cripple your economy. Also having extensive modifiers which only cities 'linked' to the main empire can share with one another discourages city spamming. I suppose you could apply some kind of 'absolute' solution to city spamming as well.... lets say the level of your founding city and the map size determines how far away new cit

I had Impulse crashing my Vista computer as well, i resolved the problem by updating Vista. Also i had to copy the game over to my laptop so i can put my main computer in for repair. I did not install Impulse on my laptop but i did copy the impulse folder across. When i tried to run the game for the first time on my laptop, it asked me to register the game - and i was able to open a folder in the impulse folder and see my game number and i could activate it on my laptop. then the ga
