I had this campaign problem too, but i ended up restarting the campaign from scratch twice because i thought it was something i did wrong! the power supply died on my computer after it was rebooting itself all the time last week so i copied the game files and impulse over to my laptop so i can play while the computer is in for repair. When i tried to run the game it asked me to register the game which i did but then it asked me to update the game to version 109 when it already
Age of wonders and warlord series have this features and I personally feel it is very fun and addictive. Of course, we need to fight some monsters before getting the loot, and its part of the fun. The tougher the monsters are, the better the weapons and items reward. What do you think?
That and the monsters can also drop random loot as well! Also you can have various sets.... so the parts of a suit of armor and a weapon can all be foun

I have got quite a long way into my first long sandbox game now. Just got my capital to level five city too! As the game is now quite advanced i am surprised to find there is quite a substantial lack of money? I have never seen anything like it before in any other game, to be so advanced, yet so poor? And there seems to be very little capacity to do anything about it apart from demolishing buildings that cost 1 guildar maintenance (big woop). I have a huge empire and around 30
How would you rate AI ? Am asking becouse my game crashes and I have problems with gameplay. I have seen here few bad opinions but maybe somebody can write here something what could give me a light of hope in the long tunnell. A ) Defending cities should be given first strike. B ) It should be much harder for ranged attacks to hit city defending units on walls (unless the trajectory of the attack is from above such as lightning). C ) Attacking melee units should have to break through a wooden fence at the very least, or a gate. Even if stone walls are there, attacking melee forces can still break through the gate without siege equipment (but siege equipment would make it much easier). D ) co
You're only going to suffer notable performance degradation before going OOM if you have little enough system memory that the game digs in to the swap file significantly. As a 32 bit app though, Elemental can't use more than 2GB no matter how much you have.
I can understand now how my trick of running another application in the background, then shutting it down so i can save the game worked with DA.... but the out of memory error with DA did not divert straight to

I'm in my first long game of Elemental right now and i was assuming the metal would be a high level smelting technology. Sad to hear that it is not.... but the point is, my assumption does indicate a good way of introducing the metal into production in the game!

How about overwatch defensive moves for countering first strike? On the first round of combat, the defending side is allocated an extra round of movement points towards making overwatch defensive moves and each defensive move costs X amount of movement points. So the attacker still has a chance to focus their attack on an individual unit and run it out of defensive moves or hit points, whichever comes first! Then overwatch defensive moves can still be used during the re
It can only push so far before the the system / run time say "No, you cannot have any more memory!" and then it crashes. The cause is that some stuff that is not being used and will never be used again is not being recycled, resulting in the game eventually running out. (On 64 bit systems, each application can run in its own 64 bit address space, meaning each application theorectically could use more memory than most people's hard drives have space
I had my 1st ever "out of memory error" a couple days ago. XP sp3, 32 bit, 3gb ram. So its not just 64-bit OS. Normally in late-game the game slows down, has constant disc access (sign that it is out of "real" memory and pounding on the virtual memory), and crashes every 20-30 turns. I interpret all that as signs that it is ALMOST out of memory, but its only "officially" been out the one time.
</

I got a Vista 64 bit system a couple of years ago and was getting the out of memory error in Galciv Dark Avatar, never managed to fix that problem. Anyway, I'm getting tired of the out of memory bug in Elemental now, but i cannot find the fix mentioned by Delmoroth?

Some interesting ideas on overwatch/reaction moves... Overwatch doesn't need to be too complicated to work well - the first game i saw overwatch used well was called 'rifles' being a game so old that it probably won't even run on windows 98 OS!! In that game you play American civil war, and various other European wars with the weaponry of that era. You have various options at your disposal with each unit - several different unit formations, and you can give them overwatch orders as we

Your trade caravans are simply the most likely to be at a position close to a forest outside your zone of influence. But it's also, of course, that weak monsters don't attack strong groups. They even send you messages saying you're too strong for them, if you know what to look for.
Animals never send messages and the

Noticed how when you clear an area of animals, no more spawn unless there is a vulnerable unit that they can kill? I have had guys wandering forever looking for animals.... none, always none, build a caravan - shazam, 3 animals happen to be in the area now all of a sudden! I build a pioneer, send him off in one direction, suddenly a wolf in that direction, ok go the other way, suddenly a bear etc etc!! WTF, is the AI playing cow throw but with wild animals??

12 Replies 5,197 Views

I have noticed early game, if i do auto battle with my leader against animal, he wins usually.... if there is a hero with him, the hero always dies. You can reduce the battle threshold in game options so it will take you into battle mode or remove the hero from the leader unit before he fights. It is hard to avoid loosing units in melee combat, so I try to get my leader with a ranged combat spell ASAP and archery technology as quick as possible as well. Also you can give bows to heros

With regard to the combat 'miss' issue.... i had that one instance where the enemy dude went on a rampage and was untouchable. Now after doing many more battles with these kind of enemy i can say that original dude was just cheating fate by not getting hit to that extent. If ever i get a crazy lucky enemy like that again, i can simply reload and try again.
