To be honest, i would be more excited about multiplayer for galciv than Elemental! Elemental is not really offering too much to entice me towards multiplayer... but there are some things which would be intruguing in multiplayer - such as dynasties (if it was much quicker)?

Personally i loved the campaign, right up to the point of defeating the dude with the dragon. Never before have i seen a campaign set itself up for such greatness, then....?? Imagine a new high speed motorway, just opened, all these motorists entering and expecting to accelerate to great speed but instead suddenly drop off the edge after a few hundred meters! Yep, this describes the campaign quite nicely!
Random Maps post 1.1 are very bland indeed, and many restarts just gives you more of the same. This has made random maps unusable as far as i am concerned. But one good thing did come out of it.... it forced me to learn how to use the map editor and i have never looked back! There is a long list of saved maps available for use, which is lucky since the random map generator in the map editor steadfastly refuses to obey 'single continent'.
Why would you want to use magic post 1.1 update?? In all my games since 1.1 update, i have not used 1 single combat spell, ever! The reason being that by the time i have any decent combat spell, i am well past the point of actually needing it!!! There are plenty of hero's with special combat abilities, these could be construed as 'spells' and make up for the destruction of magic post 1.1 updates.
The game does not like to be restarted anymore, it was ok in earlier versions tho, so i don't know what happened since then? I use custom maps and if i restart, my minor races all resign!! To stop that, I have to exit the game each time i want to restart.
I would assume you mean 16 gig of ram and 2 gig graphics card?.... unless what you mean by 6 months old, is that you found it on the street in a pile of garbage for council pick up 6 months ago!! The Out of Memory Error has been around for quite some time, and i have even seen it in earlier Galactic Civilisations games. That is how long it has been around. So you could say it is to Stardock what Osama Bin Laden is to America! Saving the game is a trigger for the
Also you can research on turn 1 if your lucky to hire a nearby hero scientist or scholar for archane research.

I mean, i have been playing this game (1.1) for a while now and i have given up trying to comprehend any possible connection between the stats and the actual units and combat?
I have been playing for some time with the new updates.... in all honesty i will be reloading my backup of 1.09e after this last game finishes. I find that i really miss the manna system in the old version.

But you know, the fact is, crushing exploits and worshiping game balance to such a degree results in a brilliant game being far more bland, weak and boring than it should be!" I personally don't mind being able to develop to a level when one of my units can wipe out the entire kingdom of an enemy - the thing is you should have to work hard for such achievement - well ma
I could not disagree outright with any points of the OP! Personally i suspect that most of what holds Elemental back is Stardocks overzealous dedication to crushing exploits and game balance. This is certainly a consequence of listening to player feedback! But you know, the fact is, crushing exploits and worshiping game balance to such a degree results in a brilliant game being far more bland, weak and boring than it should be!
Another option for people having difficulty with the game is to play version 109e. The powerful offensive spells can be accessed fairly early - My favorites were fire dart, fire ball and inferno. Once i got Inferno i could easily destroy any AI race troubling me without even breaking a sweat! Precisely why it got packed behind a wall of technology in 1.1 i suppose!!
Thanks for the replies all.... i do like to post about movies that get great reviews but then disappoint me, or the opposite. Black Swan however did actually manage to take me into its story, before i realized it was boring, because they really did do a good job with what little they had to work with in terms of story line - managed to squeeze blood from a stone with that story idea i think! But even so, i do not think this movie deserves the reviews it is getting, so i
I watched that movie the other day and my reaction was strange? While i was watching the movie, and i was fully engaged in the plot, i started feeling wrestles and uncomfortable in my seat, and as the movie progressed, and even despite some 'interesting' moments i suddenly realized i was bored shitless! And i'm like, "oh my God, this is really booring!!!, what he hell am i doing watching it?" The drama did manage to wake up a little bit at the end of the movie,
The reason the exploration resources are limited to a radius of your territory around the capital is to stop your resources overlapping with your opponents and vice versa..... and if there are allot of players, with all their resources overlapping, it would get very cluttered, how crazy would that be?? might actually be fun? The best thing in my opinion would be to extend the random spawn to the entirity of your own territory, but then this would put immense pressure on pl
I'm going to test this. I'm going to do two games (one actually). I'll save at like 5 cities and then research Exploration til the end and see how many resources pop up. Then I'll revert to the save prior to the research, then build 30 cities and then see if it makes any difference.
Don't forget to run the exploration tech turn several times for each. I am not certain how random it is, so one try might give you 3 farms, try again
Thanks for the replies. Now, if I build new cities and then expand my territory, will more of these resources pop up in the new territory + cities once the territory covers the spawning tiles, or is this an one-time-only event that's only limited to my existing cities and territory at the moment of discovery?
My understanding of it is that the resources only spawn within your territory nea
I heard that the resources have to spawn within a certain distance of your capital. So once the surrounding area around your capital is well covered by your territory, then you can research exploration. In my recent game (1.1) i got just 1 farm in that tech tree and a few other useless things, so all in all, it is not something i would be bothered researching at all in future, it is a waste of time, honestly.
Possibly the cpywright holders of master of magic must be pricks or have nasty contractual things stopping them putting it on Impulse? You can get MoM for $6 on gog.com - no DRM. Lots of old games available there cheap.
Thanks for that, i will check it out. But still, Impulse has a good quantity of old cheap games, so i dunno why they cannot have MOM as well? I'm also looking for civ2 as
The big problem for me having played the game over a number of updates is described most suitably by the saying 'whack a mole'. The mole represents things that i like and dislike about the game and Stardock tromp around whacking some things i dislike but also whack some things that i do like, then new things that i like and dislike pop up and so on and so fourth. If only they could whack just the things i disliked,,,, if only! oh well.
I have heard allot about that mysterious game master of magic, and i think i even saw a post some time ago with Frogboy saying they would try and get it available on Impulse. I have been watching for it on Impulse for some time but all i see is some game called mater of orion instead. Possibly the cpywright holders of master of magic must be pricks or have nasty contractual things stopping them putting it on Impulse?
Hey what about invisible armor?? and invisible clothes? with visible sexy underwear and bear skin?, you know, just like at American international airports!!!!!
You just have to realize game balance is geared for combat between races not creatures.
I share you frustrations with getting archers to shoot in battle. That really needs a fix.
It appears as tho they are waiting for the dying guy to finish dying and fade away? If that is the case, why cant they have the dying guy graphics run in the background instead? But you know, i would sooner have no dying graphics at all if it meant we could get rid of this debilitating delay thing that slowly gnaws away at you
Swearing isn't really needed to get your point across in a post. And even in real life, i have swearing strictly reserved for shock situations such as slamming a finger in a door or getting an 'out of memory' error when i try to save game in Elemental. I might even let one loose when an archer suddenly runs forward (due to tiny mouse slip, not out of range) instead of attacking during combat in elemental!! That's about it.
