Frogboy
I like your style.
Also, morale is a big factor in tactical battles as is terrain.
The tactical battle UI from beta 4/game trailers doesn't remotely resemble the finalized UI. The one in beta 4 was simply there to allow users to test the basic engine. As we keep trying to explain to people, and this is why we'll be changing future betas to require some steps before joining, our betas are not DEMOS. If you want a demo of the game, wait until after it's released. We will be putting out videos and walking players through the actual finalized game in the n

It's ok for a beta to hold the record for the only program to cause an Out of Memory Error on my 8 GB system
:) Actually it only requires it to use 2 GB to run out of memory because the process limit on 32-bit is 2GB. It's a killer. But without the public beta, we would never ever have been able to track this down.

But eliminating a c
Love it!
If you have a fire shard, your fire spells are 2X effective. Not in beta 4 but in our build. In our build, swords tend to increase your combat speed but do less damage per hit so your units have to be more survivable. By contrast, Battle Hammers are very slow but do a lot of damage so your focus is killing them quickly. So if you go up against one big nasty monster, you'll want to use units with swords. If you're going up against lots of weaker units, you'll w
Frogboy, having only humanoid soldiers and such is fine. I dont care if there are elves, orcs, and unicorns, etc. I also haven't seen the final product yet but I think what one thing they are talking about, and what I hope is that there will be more variety between weapons. I can't really say because I don't know what you guys have done to combat now but in beta 4 the uniqueness and variety in combat is lost I think. It would be great if a dagge
This is very interesting. Let me think about this.
Thanks. Well, the release version will really tell the story. As some of you know, I was pretty "whiney" about Beta 4. You should see the list. But we read the forums and play and play the game. I thikk people are going to freak out really at the release version. Though, for all the things people worry about, the thing I was really worried about was the memory leak. That worried me a lot.
LOL. You guys rock. The final game will be a real testiment to the value of public betas. I'm going to be doing a post mortem on the game in a few weeks and the public beta was a crucial part of making the game turn out so well.
Thanks for showing great stuff in these walkthrough videos! During beta testing I was occasionally worried that the game would not be deep enough. But now I am convinced this will be a wonderful game. UI is certainly good enough. People who put a perfect UI as top priority when judging a game, well congratulations there's a lot of crap games out there with great UI but nothing of&

I didn't mean to make you crazy, Frogboy It's just my one big complaint about what's looking to be a great game and I was surprised to finally see someone else mention it. Anyway, I've been in these betas since day one and I've been reading the dev journals ever since. If it means anything, the in-depth look at Elemental's development has pretty much cemented
Don't enter public life if you don't have thick skin...
It's time for you to go, ThinkProgress. Nothing is more annoying than someone who argues that a person lacks some given quality while utterly relying on that very quality -- such as saying I am thin skinned but relying on me having a thick skin to not remove him. We're pleased with how the game is coming along. We think most people will like it. Not all will of course. I think most peo
Frogboy, I think you missed the orginal posters point. He was basically complaining that unit design was not compelling. He stated various reasons for this some having to do with lore (humanoids dominate) and some having to do with gameplay (different weapon and armor types are not different enough to make the units unique and interesting with unique roles for different units). You seem to have been distracted from his valid critique by the overall negative sentiement.[/quo
Inheritance/wars of succession were actually plugged at last year's PAX, that was part of the original plan for dynasties. Would be nice to see it implemented in an expansion.
Indeed. That's something that had to be commented out because it was taking me far too long to program AI that made use of it effectively and as you know, we try to avoid having features the AI doesn't use.
It depends on how criticism is delivered. Part of me is just outraged and disheartened at what I've seen today at the Starcraft 2 forums over at Blizzard. I didn't work on SC2 obviously but I can't help but take the endless bitching there a bit personally as a game developer and realizing that no matter how perfect something is, some people will never be satisfied. It's always that way of course. The difference is, I don't have to participate. So coming back over
The primary benefit of dynasties is to gain children who have essence and thus can cast spells. After release, we can listen to ideas of what people would like fleshed out. :)

Some of the sadsackery I see on these forums make me think that some of you guys really aren't worth my time. Hopefully, you guys can find a game that meets your expectations in the future. But I can tell you right now, if these forums were to become a big bag of whiney malcontents, I'll find somewhere else to spend my time. I'm really getting tired of the pettiness. The game's final UI is good. No, it doesn't expand with resolution. But it's a good UI for managing

I suspect you're just not going to like Elemental. Civ V comes out in September though so you can perhaps try that. I'm not trying to be flip but saying that different resources are all the same or all techs are the same really just tells me that this game isn't for you. I'm sorry.
