So first off, I want to say thanks to the Stardock guys for continuing to develop and work on this game. I think it has a lot of potential and I applaud the hard work you guys have put in to improve the game. I previously really enjoyed Fallen Enchantress.
Next off, as to the title, lets have a quick talk about the way the AI works in this game. Because its making my face bleed. Last time I stopped playing Fallen Enchantress, the AI was kind of interesting. Instead of fighting an actual simulated battle the AI would get a roll whenever fighting any monster and have a percent chance of winning depending on how strong the AI's army was and how strong the monster was. Now this works, but a lot of the time I will discover a wildland with the AI right next to it and its killed half of the super strong enemies with a lvl 3 hero. Now I am all for strong AI but this isn't strong AI, this is an AI who simply gets lucky all of the time.
Now, onto the second part. This AI also has the supreme luck of being able to magically walk right past enemies without activating them. For example, kraxis might end up settling a city right next to a nested dragon. Now, normally, if I were to do this my city would be leveled before I could produce anything and my empire would start being set on fire by one very angry dragon. However, when the AI does this, the dragon acts like they are invisible, until I scout that city. At which point the dragon realizes its territory has been taken and starts moving, but it also seems to think that I caused this disruption. Which is a little irritating, because not only does the AI get a free legendary or excellent goodie hut, but I get an angry dragon following me back to my empire (not all of the time granted, they don't often go to far).
Now with these two points in mind, I want to talk about Deorcnysse, the darkling mist city. Its pretty awesome I assume, but I have never quite had the pleasure of getting there because by the time its 20 turns into the game some lvl 1-3 hero from an empire across the board has managed to walk past all of the guards and take the undefended city. I think this is a prime example of how the AI is broken, they can literally ignore almost every kind of enemy while having at least a decent chance of defeating almost anything they do choose to fight. A little disturbing when I reveal the map and the enemy empires have a lvl 3 hero, a lvl 2 hero and no soldiers and seem to manage to still clear out the trolls siting next to them.
So as to the last part of this tag. I would like to make a request, I personally really enjoy most other aspects of the game. But, it kills me that the AI can just waltz around the map and grab what looks good. So, if nothing else I would really like for their to be some way for the AI to actually play, instead of being a quasi-dice-rolling-luck-grabbing-one-man-army. Also maybe station an army or some special darkling monster in Deorcnysse to prevent the mad AI rush for it.
