I've been lobbying for this for some time. It would certainly make things much easier for the new player, giving them a handy list of spells to see in one place, so they can grasp how each spellbook is structured--its strengths, and weaknesses. And it wouldn't hurt to have available for easy access to the beta veteran like you, or me.
