What is the policy on making gameplay videos and commentary.

So, when the beta comes out, I might want to record some videos of me playing and put them on youtube.

I haven't decided for sure, if I am going to do this. And I am not sure if my computer can even handle recording FE. Also I don't even know if I will get the beta this week or next, I preordered (elemental) the weekend before release, if I remember correctly.

 

But I would like to know if Stardock condones me recording my beta experience.

I understand if you don't want the unfinished version leaving a wrong impression with the viewers. Or if you are generally against this sort of thing.

Can I also ask what the policy is for making 'monetised' videos on YouTube. Many companies have a published policy - such as Mojang saying 'go to town' where others will provide approval in writing.

The main issue is that YouTube will not allow video producers to allow advertising on in-game-footage unless proof (a link etc) can be provided.

I'd also be interested in making a Lets Play series if Stardock will allow monetisation of the content.

I would recommend that stardock consider giving permission for monetisation only to established Lets Play authors.

The point of this is that while anyone can make a Lets Play video, it really does take some skill to create one that is enjoyable to watch and those that do create really good Lets Play video's should be rewarded while at the same time we don't want every tom dick and harry to flood the market with poorly made videos that don't show the game the way it should be shown.

So by limiting who is given permission we will hopefully end up with only a few high quality Lets Play videos from established lets play authors. 

Also before anyone asks I am not an established author nor have I ever created a Lets Play video before, with that being I can provide several examples of a Lets play video created by a professional and those created by armatures. The Professional series is generally much more enjoyable to watch especially if the author puts a lot of humor into they way he presents the video.

The fate of the game is in your hands in the most literal sense.  Because Elemental: War of Magic got such a bad rap (fairly or unfairly is irrelevant), we realistically cannot do a lot of marketing because every article is going to start with “After the ‘disastrous’ Elemental: War of Magic, Stardock hopes to make up lost ground, is it too late?” type stuff followed by comments like “Elemental? Stardock should just give up and make GalCiv III!”  The only hope FE has is for people who actually have the game to spread the word IF THE GAME IS GOOD. 


There’s no NDA so you can do whatever video you want or post about it or whatever.  Do with it what you will.

A short update.

I will not be LPing Fallen Enchantress in the near future.

Because it doesn't support playing at 1280x720 resolution. I ( like many others) don't have a powerful enough PC to record at 1080p. And recording at a different resolution than my video target is abhorrent to me.

I plan to play for a bit tonight, starting at about 6:30pm EST.

I have downloaded the game and am planning to stream the install (that should be fun), the tutorial and then some sandbox play.

I've never done a livestream anything before, so it'll likely be hot garbage and I probably will do some dumb embarrassing stuff, but you are welcome to check it out if you want.

Thanks Zozz! That was great. You were brave to livestream your first games, and kind to share the experience with us.

From watching all that crash free, smooth running, interesting gameplay... it seems that Elemental: Fallen Enchantress is off to a great start. It seemed like every five minutes I was saying in chat "I like how...", "It's cool that...", etc. And this isn't even the release version.

Unfortunately the stored videos are in the bad quality, since I only have a free account.

But the last live video feed was in HD... when it was live.
