In a precious post i have said i would not refer to other games and that Elemental should be taken on it's own merits.
I still agree with that. However, occasionally it is still useful to take about other games.
Specifically, Heroes of might of magic. Please don't have a knee jerk reaction, i think some of you will.
Regarding the game play of Elemental, in term of HoMM5, i feel like i am stuck playing the Haven faction when i play kingdom - I can't comment on Empire because i don't play that side too much atm. I think of all the flexibility the Homm5 system has through it's simple number crunching which leads to the wide variety of game play though the warlock, necromancer, wizard, demon lord and ranger. Skills and feats are fun, they make your heroes special and breathe life into the game through simple mechanics.
Please make it possible so modders can affect skills and feats of heroes. (and units too, that is completely worth taking the time to do)
It is the differences in the heroes and each of the special rules they bring to the table that helps drives home the differences of each and every faction in the game. The New options in the faction editor make for some very nice options. I like you can pick 3 points worth of bonuses and then add a flaw to make them learn magic more slowly to create a faction with a barbarian like military presence with very little magic, compared to a faction/ sovereign combination which loads up on the magic bonus. If we can add this kind of variety to the unit selection as well then we will have an incredible game.
Please lets see it happen.
