also finding the archers to be very effective, but historically they WERE very effective at forcing shielded/armoured approaches to the archers positions without having huge losses of the attacking troops, but the plate armour was originally designed to be effective against all but massed archers and other weapons other than maces and hammers due to it's rigid structure and small openings.
I also had an enemy sov suicide upon an attack against a town I had taken approximatly twenty turns before, admittedly the sovs stack DID have a stone giant the sov and ten other units with a total attack of 339 and I only had a stack of 7 with a stone giant, fire giant a sov with bow(42 hit 7.2 moves), a party of archers( able to hit up to 65 2 moves) a couple of single archers(17 hit 2 moves ) and another adventurer that I had also equipped with a bow(24 hit) and 3 moves, with a rating of approx 280, so on plain numbers it seemed a good idea, but archers SHOULD be rated a LOT higher due to their range and ability to fire twice a tac turn I used the party of archers to kill the stone giant and the nearest party of attacking troops, then used my sovs arrows to kill the attacking sov.
in another battle that I had with my sov stack I did have a miss with the party of archers when attacking a LEVEL 9 drake, just ended up using most of the archer attacks from the troops to kill it, and the MISS DID suprise me as the FIRST miss from archers in a 1.08b game.
