Thanks for the response Kryo, but no luck. My drivers were from sept 2009, and latest Intel drivers for the 945 chipset win 7 are from 2 oct 2009. I updated, rebooted and still getting ctd on start of a new game or new campaign.
Update 1 - I was messing with settings, and I am able to get the game to play if I play windowed rather than full screen
Update 2 - correction I can only get the "New" game to play, campaign still crashes. I have dropped the graphics settings to lowest possible, and forcing a frame rate of no highter than 60

Update 4 - moved to cloth map only game and now I can get into Campaigns. Full screen is still too slow to play comfortably, so play cloth map in windowed with lowest graphic settings. even with lowest settings, cloth only and windowed, it is slow and cumbersome. It strugglers to render tactical battles as well.
I am running this on a laptop with 2GB of Ram , intel core 2 duo cpu (T2350 @ 1.86 GHZ) and onboard 256mb graphix card. Is this a performance issue? I have tried dropping the graphix to the lowest possible levels, but gameplay was horribley slow
