A turn based strat game needs good, and hopefully excellent grade AI. Multiplayer just isn't as fun for many people, including me because of the time investment.
Now I know the day 0 patch is coming out today with supposed AI improvements, however I feel that it won't cover all of the many issues associated with the current state of the AI. I've played Gal Civ II for many many many games, and perhaps I'm a bit spoiled by the AI's intelligent behavior in that game. I was expecting the same thing from star dock's crack AI programming team. Right now, however, I'm a bit disappointed. The AI cities expand, most of the time, but they seldom protect their cities and even after 200 turns I go in there with my main char and 5 summons with a massed HP total of like 200/200 and just own the AI city without much problem.
The AI also doesn't attack with any kind of intelligence. On many occasions it just sends some units at me, like it didn't even scout, then attack my city with an underpowered force.
The diplomatic AI is just plain horrible. I'm not going to expand on this because It just doesn't make any sense what the AI does half the time.
Besides the AI there are a few fundamental game issues that are nerking me. Champions are unbalanced and don't fit into any kind of game concept. There're just there, under powered units unless im missing something about champions. I can lvl one up and put all his points into str/con and yet late game he is just owned by a large stack of regular mobs. Make Champions able to lead stacks, something of that kind.
The equipment in the game is uninspiring. I was hoping for some really cool unqiue loot....there really isn't any. No flying units either
I'd also like to see some more unique units. Seems like most of the units are all humanoid.
I know i'll prob get flamed for creating such a post by rabid fan bois, and my flame retardant suit is on, but all in all i really do enjoy the game, and with some fixes believe it could be better than even gal civ 2. I'm just hoping the retarded AI will be fixed soon rather than later before people simply get bored of playing against a mental patient.
