I have done the following:
- start a game with a sovereign that can do research
- set autosave to 1 turn
- found a city on your first turn
- hit end turn until you have found a tech. choose one tech.
- exit game
- restart game and load the last autosave
- look at your research tree: you will be told that you have already researched one tech but you will have 0 tech completed.
