Without those things I agree it could be a mess.

Impressive :) Although the most interesting thing for me was the Impulse Builder thing in the last part, I'm really waiting to see how that works in the future.
The way we explain Elemental to some people is to ask if they’ve ever played Dungeons and Dragons. If they say yes, then we tell them that Elemental is the world you played D&D in except instead of being a party of adventures, you’re the sovereign of the kingdom that those adventurers were playing in – but the world is still just as rich and interesting as it was before. And to convey that, we have to let players get in close to see and care

Last time I played an early version of Wesnoth, I think it didn't have an option to save mid-game and I had to finish scenarios in one go. http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6321&st=0&sk=t&sd=a People talk about reloading whenever a veteran unit dies
Minor point: Fire Emblem is very much a save/load game...otherwise the glorious art of RNG burning for some enemy actions and level up stat point distros would not exist.
About imposing - this is perfectly fine. Some Dominions (1,2,3) newbies complain about being unable to save the game, but vast majority get over it and learn to appreciate it. Yes, sometimes you actually need to impose some rules in order for a game to be played differently. There's more to game design than meets the eye, it's not 100% technical stuff. Example: In Quake 2 multiplayer, there are weapons like shotgun, blaster, machinegun, hyperb
This is red herring. Yes, technically it can provide the same functionality. That's not the point. Game design is not 100% technical affair, you have use some psychology too. Choice of save/load or save/continue has further impact on the way the game is designed. I already mentioned that features like resurrecting a party member or various forms of scouting are very rarely used in games which allow player to load the game.
<
I agree also that Save/Continue doesn't really add anything to the game. If you don't want to be saving/loading to avoid bad things, don't do it, end of the story :) And yes, I have played Save/Continue games (FE, AW,...).

You get called primary and 200 battleships lock on, I don't care what tank you got. If you can't warp, your in a pod. In small fleet skirmishes, you dps ship is going to have a "spotter" it can warp in on. If you aren't using short range high dps weapons and your sniping, I'd argue

However, the setup razor uses has 3x trimarks on it, giving it 153k EHP vs 130k for the Rokh with extender rigs. Also the rokh would now have a sig radius the size of a small moon making it easier to hit. Also messing with DPS graphs in EFT, I found that the apoc has significantly better tracking, making its effective

An Abaddon has a hard time to reach 200km and be DD tanked while a Rokh can handle both things pretty easily. if getting to 200km with DD tank is the issue then the apoc is far better than the rokh. Also 200km isn't the "must have" range for fleet sniping anymore as it was when every ship could hit 250km with skills and rigs. Nowadays 1

There are some wargames (like De Bellis Multitudinis or the d20 rules Cry Havoc) where there's something (let's call it "leadership") that affects how many units you can command effectively. It would mean for example that each turn you can only make X units active (move and attack) so if you have a very bad leader with a 10 units, maybe each turn you can only move 2 units while a good leader can move the 10 of them. Or you can give penalties to the unit attributes if you have too many units i

Lets say you're sending your main hero out into the wilderness...you zoom in and behind that unit to get a traditional 'RPG' feel (think FF7 or 8
I'm going to break a lance in favor of the II guys and Steven Fawkner. Warlords is one of the games I have enjoyed the most in the past (specially Warlords 1 and 3) so even if they screwed with Galactrix I hope they'll keep doing good games in the future (to be honest after Warlords Battlecry 3 and Warlords 4 I thought they would die but hey, they were able to surprise me with PQ).
