I also started over several times when I first got it. Seems a solid starting strat really helps you later on. I've kinda screwed myself in my game. Decided to go after dominators and piled up the repair bills. Now I'm broke and behind Tech wise. Still having a blast getting my butt kicked though. I think I'll get out of the hole with some trading.
I'm sure a lot of you have seen the DS9 episode, where DS9 held off 35 klingon ships. Now thats a starbase! I like the idea of fleeting them with other ships. A starbase fully upgraded would be quite powerful if treated as another ship in the fleet.

I used to get the pauses when I had an older Graphics card. New one helped alot, but due to still having a XP 3000 cpu I still get the pauses on larger maps. Something you kinda have to get used to or be prepared to upgrade. More RAM is always helpful too.

Yea, if your logged in under the same account you bought and/or upgraded the game through in the past, it should be under Purchased games at the top of the games list with a button to install.
I wouldn't mind seeing an active SR2 forum here as well. Got mine through Stardock last weekend. Great game! The original Elemental games forum is pretty dead now, and seeing how there is already a great community here. It would be great to be able to discuss some strats for SR2 on a more active forum.
In the foreighn relations screen, stats tab. Then look under misc I think and you'll see their intelligence level. If it isn't that particular tab, it is in there nearby.
After downloading the demo, it was another hour and fifty minutes on DSL to get the full game. Can't remember the entire size.

I've had the Drengin declare war on the Fundamentalists, then later make peace. Needless to say, I never found any Fundamentalists in the game. I'm sure though it was a 1.3 game that it happened to me in. I just chalked it up to a freak glitch because it hasn't happened again.
In the menu there's a help file. It has quite detailed explainations of everything. Takes bout an hour to read it all, but very informative. 50 minutes left and I'll have SR2 D/l'd.

I haven't bought a game since GCII back in June or July. I had bought at least one or two a month before GCII, but this game looks really interesting and the fact that Stardock is backing it makes it even more tempting. Think I'll have a go at the demo if there is one(I never buy anymore without playing a demo)and maybe line up my next purchase.
Morale buildings are useful now is the biggest difference I see, but it hasn't changed my strategy as I had always put one morale building per world anyway. Without the stock exchange boost though, I'm finding I need research up the morale tree a little quicker if I don't get anomoly money soon enough. Otherwise same addictiveness GCII has had one me for months.
If you either have the CE or have updated to at least 1.2, you never have to worry about your "bling" again it is still there after updates.
About the Economy bases and Freighters.. I've had freighters running through my network of econ. bases around my tech planet and watched my trade routes closely. I noticed a significant increase in a route while passing through the network(16 bases all with 30% trade boost). At times a route making bout 50bc would shoot up to 300+ while passing through. I still haven't gotten exact boost amounts cause I usually have to many bases to straighten out which is effecting what all the time, or rather
I went back in since it wasn't crashing and built a bunch of surveys ships to meet everyone and there is 10 majors and 2 minors besides me. I'm playing a custom race btw, which may have triggered this problem with the randomized opponents. Good thing is everything else is fine, no crashing just the one screen as far as I can tell.
Umm... I'm not sure to tell you the truth. I put it on randomize and haven't met everyone yet, so it's possible.
