Can we choose not to fight on the border regions of our lands of the larger "empire"? I want my Kingdom to be deep in Empire territory, focusing on economic backbone support!

Yes, having options from the get go would be great. I think it's been learned enough that we like them so I don't want to see optional features put in expansion packs for this game, since it should be a lot more obvious this time around! One key thing I can think of straight away was that discussion we had on specific tech research and the more generalised 'blind' one.

I only want to control if state sanction trading is allowed. What is traded and how should be automated. By merchants that pay trading tariffs to me, the king/emperor/wizardman. What does this mean if I want horsemen but have no horses? Well, I should still be able to request my settlement to build horses. And it will be the AI's job to acquire those horses. That way, there is a fluidity about what I can choose to build. Building a unit which requi

My intention was not to have the envoys as specific units you have to manually direct. But like the caravans, you could see them travel, under automation, to their destination. The main meat of it is that you let them deal with the same old task that we end up, tediously, doing in nearly every previous 4x game; which is the balancing act of offers and demands. Until the AI agrees it is acceptable or the text goes green meaning it will be accepted.

My thoughts on diplomacy. I got to thinking of it when Frogboy did his big speechy text on re-doing 4x economics and what not. Now instead of production time taking into simplified assumption about goods availability and trading time, it could all be spelt out. Well a bit of that I think can be used for our envoys and how they go diplomatificate. One of my issues with diplomacy systems is, calling another leader is instant as if on a video phone. Partly understandable on GC but n

I don't see why it only HAS to be the million monkeys with typewriters cranking out literary master pieces model. Something similar with greater refinement, similar to KoDP and EU would be appropiate and acceptable.

Yes landi, you could change your goal focus/strategy at any time. You could even have multiple goals, which means your tech discover was balanced. I think the faith is, no technology will be the 'wrong' technology, since all of it will be useful and supportive of the goals/strategy you dictated. SMAC's game options allowed you to determine if you wanted blind research or not. I think the bottom line, at the very least, is we have a choice between the two.

[quote who="Frogboy" reply="16" id="1933358"]I don't want to give too much away but consider this: Remember how if you want knights you need horses. Horses are a resource in the game that you have to harvest. They have to be more than just in yor territory, your town has to build out and put a stable on the horse resource. That gives your civilization access to horses. There are other animals in the world other than horses. There are lots of different resources in

Good to have as sattelite nations. If they do get conquered I don't think their uniqueness or individuality should be dissolved. Let their cities retain their architecture, minus any new buildings you erect. Have their populace, if it is a different race have an impact and not for the sake of statistics be treated as the same race as yours.

I prefer one layer. Having secondary layer feels like playing two different games. Option would be nice, atleast. If something has been learnt from the latest GC2 patches, a lot of customisation to games had to be put in during post-launch attention. That sort of thing would be great from the get go.

Hi vanden. Yes, the goal here is to try and avoid GalCiv's system. If our focus is simply that Weapon A is only fully countered by Armour B, we're getting the GC way. I think, while weapons and armour type will vary in value, as will the material they are made of. Their differences can be developed to be alot more interesting and unique than an elaborate varied that how GC handles combat. Using the example of plate armour. I think a better way to diminish it's h

It isn't random. You choose if you want military technologies being researched or industrial. What you don't do is specifically try to research "knights" or "mining" or "farming". These sort of things come out naturally from your chosen goal. But like SMAC, giving it as a game option would be acceptable.

I want to be evil but have lush green kingdoms.

Have limited cities, but it would be weird if our kingdom was made up of only cities. Where will our towns and villages be? Maybe that can be used to help promote expansion. Imagine, you're always worried about your villages along the border with faction D. Towns could be specialised in which they export raw materials or something. Much better than a random mine building on a resource tile. Especially if that tile isn't near a city.

GalCiv2 had nothing to explore, hehe. Just a lot of pointlessly empty squares. I felt GalCiv2 missed a chance, as a sci-fi game, to make space interesting and exaggerate a bit some of the great phenomenons we have out there. What GalCiv2 showed on the larger maps was the growing difficulty to manage stuff. Civ4, was built on being U-friendly. Of course, I expect elemental to be a lot more friendly, especially with the 64-bit maps featuring. I have an idea on diplomacy a

As long as it doesn't follow the principle that GalCiv had, I'm cool with it. I think the whole pierce, crush and slash thing is unnecessary. A swordsman isn't just going to try and slash his enemy in a fight. He might go for stabs, he might kick them. Hit them with the hilt of his sword. A spearman won't just be trying to pierce with his spear all the time. He might swing it and thunk enemy too. I think greater focus should be on morale and effectiveness(traini

Yes. Have a real potential state of flux between regions. After all, aren't we going to start out as a 'minor' power with only one city or something?

38 Replies 21,699 Views

Real geopolitical stuff with large varieties of cultures and blah blah blah! I suppose what there could be is, large scale epic wars that only occur and effect only a region of the map. With these 64-bit maps, it can be like in LoTR, where Middle-Earth was having the fight of their lives, while most other regions of Arda were unaffected and could continue with their own affairs. One problem with current maps is, eventually everything is filled out by all th

If there is going to be a diplomatic council or something. (think United nations but more like an 'aged council of the wise) Have it cool like in Alpha Centauri. Where you can talk to the leaders during the meeting. Civ and GalCiv's was just an elaborate(for the latter) voting system.

I don't feel this should be getting as much praise as it has been. I understand it may have more with the fact it is a return of Fallout - something I share enjoyment in. But I feel that excitement has blanketed up the typical Bethesda weaknesses. I like the VATS, I don't understand why they tried to make it a combo with the weak fps bit. Also I found the scuffle about children in Fallout a bit funny, since in Fable I can smack them about. Hehe. &n
