More like a Mutual Protection Pact, I'd say.

Dread Lords in sandbox mode? As a possible update? THIS is why I love you, Stardock. =D
"So this is a human. Your skin looks delicious. I'm sure in time we'll meet for dinner." Yeah, the Drengin appear to enjoy enslaving their victims, then eating them. Or just eating them.
Nice pics. But some of the subtitles are wrong -- the "Enormous Tech Tree" one is beneath the Race Selection screenshot, for example. Still, they're all very nice.
Once or twice a week. Sad that it's so slow...
Well, I read recently that scientists are reevaluating the possibilities of tidally locked planets orbiting red dwarves having life -- apparently it has something to do with weather systems regulating the temperature of the planet to a fair extent? Indeed, it'd be pretty hostile but not impossible for such a world to be inhabitable or even thriving with life.
*hums the Imperial March* "A long time into the future, in a galaxy not-so-far-away..." Bet it was better while you were watching it.
Oh, I didn't know you were independantly publishing, too. Does this mean I can buy it in the stores and not feel guilty? I bought GC1 in a store before I knew that you weren't getting a thing from it [I bought Altarian Prophecy via download, though]. I want Stardock to receive payment for the game so more can be made. =D Nice ad, by the way. ^^
It seems to me that the big distinction between Major and Minor races in GC2 is that you can PLAY as Major races but not as Minors. I still suggest a number of Minor Race options that can be set to determine just how aggressive and capable the Minors are -- from fodder to Major-save-the-playability. But then, I like variety in my galaxies and prefer everyone to have a fighting chance. I always hated the fodder Minors...
Unfortunately, I lack the Beta and at this point I don't think I'll be getting the beta, so...you can still set rival AIs to different moralities, I hope? If not, at the very least I'd hope one could do it for campaigns. My campaign series relies on the ability to alter rival moralities around a lot. I don't think Stardock'd ignore the interest that mirror-universes and whatnot could have in a normal game, but I figure that I should check anyway -- just in case.
Just being the Yor brings a negative penalty? O_o Does this have to do with the Yor being, uh...machines? Sort of an "organics don't completely trust inorganics, and vice versa" thing?
Well, whenever I hear the term "assimilation" I think of "cultural assimilation", where native/immigrating populations are assimilated into the main population of the society. Considering the era of GalCiv, it seems likely that such a thing would be far easier to accomplish via reeducation programs and such. And then there're the Thalan, who are a hivemind of insects, yes? I always imagined their assimilation into other cultures being via some form of forced disconnection from the hivemind --
would u still say America was a minor power? i think what alot of people are saying is that minor powers become majour ppowers but are still treated as minor powers And I'd certainly like to hear their suggestions as to how said races would become "Major". As far as I can tell, "Major race" in GC2 means "playable race"...
When the system allows for minors to do everything a major race can, why not make them all into major races and just have done with it? Because that'd require Stardock to pour resources into making 40 or so bland major races rather than nine highly unique majors and tons of cheap minors, lest you want to lose every other feature in the game? Be
Does that mean there'll still be a random quality Sol V? Or is that removed? I have no problems whatever you do, though it'd be neat to see Venus as a quality...like...2 planet or something. But having a quality 35 Sol V [yay for exaggeration] would be better... Of course, for all I know you're planning for Sol to be a four-planet system in the end...o.o
Personally, I absolutely adore Minor Races. The way I've always seen it, the Major races have story value -- they are important to the overall flow of the GalCiv universe plot, essentially. The Minor races are everyone else in the galaxy; the miscellaneous unnamed traders, the one-shot episode aliens, the upstarts which want to be important. The biggest problem I've always had is that the Minors just usually...suck, for lack of a better term. Most of them topple over easily, and those that don't
Personally, if they ever did release a second GalCiv1 expansion, I'd like to see the ability to pre-place Minor Races when building maps. ^_^ That would be extremely useful to me.
Lucky Jack, I think the "Mass Drivers" are actually more akin to railguns or coilguns. I believe I saw a screen of GC2 with the projectile attack power labelled "Gun". On topic, I do like the idea though I also agree with Ugleb about the testing necessary to balance it...^_^
Oh, you're talking about Mission 16! I'll fix that right away. EDIT: There, fixed. Redownload the ZIP and put all the stuff where it needs to be, and you'll have everything fixed. Restart the mission, though; it's not necessary to restart the campaign I think. [Message Edited]
You're kidding me? I should've known I missed something...I'll deal with it and have an updated ZIP up soon. EDIT: Uhm, I'm sorry but...I couldn't find any systems with no planets on my version of the file...o.o I'll check my ZIP. EDIT2: I'm sorry, but I can't exactly find any systems that lack planets... Take as long as you need. ^^; Mission 11...that's Torian Darkness, is it not? Indeed, it's meant to be a pretty difficult one. The enemy has a big advantage, though I hope it's not totally crippling.
Yes! As someone who prefers "fun" space scifi to "realistic" space scifi [as far as things spanning star systems go, anyway], I'll say that this is a primary reason I prefer the fun. That picture of Jupiter and the Earth though is scary -- it looks like Jupiter opened a mouth at its pole and is preparing to eat the Earth!
Ehm, sorry about not saying too much about this. Anyone who tests this, please be on the look out for spelling and consistancy errors as well as balancing issues. Either post the information here or send it [email protected] Thank you very much for assisting me. ^^ Anyone who provides any information will get a place in the "credits", which will be put in as a Readme and also edited into the Campaign Epilogue. Credit where credit is due, after all. *bows* Oh, and
I finally managed to finish this thing! I definitely need some people to play through it so that I can balance it a little. I'm not really someone who could balance it, after all -- I can't actually play the game without being utterly destroyed above Beginner. ^^;; http://www.geocities.com/globalnexus13/Yor_Mainframe.zip That's the link to the zipped file. It contains all 17 missions. Just extract to your Campaigns section of the AP folder. =D [Message Edited] [Message
What about Minor Race AI? Assuming there'll be Minor Races, they likely won't be using the Major Race AI patterns. So why not give any custom nonplayable race the Minor Race AI? That would be quite good, unless Minor Races are also going to work on specific parameters [or perhaps a lack of them, in this case].
