I think that's one of the things that bothers me the most is the TOTAL lack of a Manual or in-game help the Hiergamenon thingie is a Joke..... Is there anyway to print the Hiergamenon off of the website? Will we ever get a real Manual giving us all the controls and Shortcuts? or does the forum have to Mod up one of those too... Regarding using pre-existing fantasy tropes or creating new ones, it can work either way the problem (as has already been pointed out numerous times) is that the diversity is in the LORE and not in the GAME. If they would get it in the game then we wouldn't be having this thread. Right now I imagine most players are like me and are just projecting their fantasy stereotypes onto the races anyway, which makes Elemental a case of 'naming a rabbit a smerp': Ironeers = dwarves Manc

Should I be posting my FAQ somewhere else then? It isn't like I can dump 12,000 words (and counting) into a post here ;)

Updated version (0.82) just became available: 10/12/10 v.82 - numerous spelling fixes, added more information in most of "The Basics" sections, added Basic sections Quests, Shards, The Store & Equipment, UI; in "In Depth" added Champion abilities, custom faction creation; a few more tips and tricks

Reply to Siege in War of Magic

What is the command to start a siege? I haven't been able to figure that out. Is there a keyboard shortcut or is it a context button on the unit's command bar, and if so where does the unit have to be in order for the "Siege" command to show up on the bar?

It talks about choosing feats for heroes at level up in the manual, but it doesn't exist in the game. Since it made the manual I assume it is a feature that is at least partially worked on and so I would bet that it will show up in an expansion.
This is something very basic that most 4x games companies even create nice charts for (in fact, they even used to make posters of these in the good old days when the manuals that came with PC games were actually useful).
Sadly these days you have to pay extra for that kind of stuff. The official Fallout 3 guide was a great book and had a HUGE fold out map, but 10 years ago you would have gotten that map in the ga

Or like MoM, all units gained 1 XP per turn regardless of what they were doing. Winning in a combat just meant they got MORE XP that turn. Of course max XP for a regular unit was around 120 if I recall, so it took quite awhile before a unit would level all the way up for doing nothing.

They have message boards? ;) In 10+ years of reading FAQs I had never once even looked at one of their message boards until two days ago., so I'll reserve any opinions on the community. But GameFAQs has always been my go-to place for FAQs. When I need a community fix I'll get it here :)

Hi everyone! So I've been working on a FAQ/Strategy guide and version 0.8 is up on GameFAQS. http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/954860-elemental-war-of-magic/faqs/61009 While there is a healthy amount of subjective opinion, the main point is to gather the raw data and get it into a place where fellow gamers can reference it (skip towards the end and look at the "Data" section, I have drawn out the tech t

The AI really seems to like picking Arcane bonus at level up, as well as building Arcane improving buildings in cites that only have base 1 production.

In other words, short answer is no. Many players have taken to naming their cities in a way that will help remind you (for example put an "A", "G", or "T" in front of the name to stand for Arcane, Gold, or Tech).

Take any unit that is on a horse/warg and watch the counter-attack animation. Where is it you ask? I don't know exactly, except that it is about 7 seconds in the future. If, while mounted, I kill a unit in one blow: no problem. But if I strike, or even worse, if I am the target of an attack that does not kill me, an eternity passes while I sit upon my trusted steed. Please deliver me from this agony!!! [e digicons]:waaaa:[/e]
The benefit of "resourceful" is essentially a gamble. If you can scavenge some materials in the first few turns, it's a moderate boost, but not worth sinking an entire faction perk into. If you can't scavenge some materials... this is game-changing, putting you ten turns ahead of where you'd otherwise be. Problem is, you don't know until you're actually in the game which trait is worthwhile. The metal boost is close to

You know, while the manual SAYS there are different damage types and that different armors resist better against those types, I personally do not believe it is actually in the game. I read the manual this morning (after playing the game for a month, just read it) and I'm pretty sure it was written VERY early in Elemental's design phase. So I wouldn't worry about armor much except for what your end Defense rating is. Of course I would love to be proved wrong. Kind of off topic for my own

Sometimes I find multiple +25 material crates and it isn't an issue. But if you don't find ANY materials from early scavenging, you'll feel it. Having a turn go by with nothing producing is like 4X gamer hell ;)

I've seen some questions about this so here is a breakdown of your (well, my) early game priorities (say the first 30-50 turns). The BIGGEST LIMIT early game is Materials, period. Managing how you spend your materials is your primary concern. Here is your checklist of what you need to accomplish ASAP: (K) means Kingdom and (E) means Empire - Get your first city founded - Start producing Materials - Build a workshop / labor pi

Diplomatic victory on turn 102, medium map, 6 opponents, ridiculous. Founded four cities, wiped out two factions, allied with other four. http://drop.io/lviuseq/asset/elric-2-elesav

The primary benefits, as listed above, are a diplomatic boost with the faction and the potential for grandchildren down the line. When married your male children will always stay with you and have the other faction's daughter join you, while your female children will always go to the other faction. Horribly sexist, I know. When grandchildren grow up they have a chance to join either of their parent's starting faction. It seems weighted towards their joining their mother's fact

In my mind a lot of this can be boiled down to 1) how the game distributes resource tiles across the map, and 2) ensuring there is little economic incentive to founding a city that will never have an associated resource tile. Personally I had to move away from tiny and small maps because the worlds would quickly run out of uncontrolled space where monsters would spawn, and darn it I like hunting monsters. I didn't play MoM to see how quickly I was going to beat the AI, it was a forgon

-There needs to be a magic defense attribute beyond "This unit can not be the target of offensive spells" (which doesn't work ATM). -Shields need to provide a large bonus against ranged attacks beyond their stated "dodge bonus" (which also doesn't seem to work ATM). -I would love it if different armors were better/worse against different damage types, but that's probably pie-in-the-sky. -A real First Strike system where damage from the attacker is only applied AFTER t
