I'm guessing you are playing the campaign and not a sandbox game? In the campaign you can't get far in the first mission until you talk to a certain NPC. I would ignore the campaign and just play 'New Game' If however you ARE playing a random new game and getting that message then something is seriously screwed up. :)

If the most expensive spell in the game only costs 20 mana (like now) then you don't really need a mana-per-turn limit as you are never going to get into multi-turn casting. If you can afford to cast ten 20 mana spells in one turn then you probably deserve to be able to. On the other hand if the game is to become more like MOM and have epic-level spells, then multi-turn casting and a per-turn limit will probably inevitably evolve into Elemental.
RikazeMA is 100% correct. With all available training buildings built a level 4 Empire city can produce ANY unit in one turn, a 100% time discount. Kingdom cities never get beyond a 75% discount. The AI as of 1.09e is not normally smart enough to actually build all of the buildings necessary, so I can excuse most
Awesome post, thank you! Just to play interpreter for a minute, when Kael says Essence is gone he's talking about a stat; when the players who were involved in the last two year's of boards and betas say Essence is GONE?!?! they are talking about a core conceptual difference between the word 'Essence' and the word 'Mana'. Newer readers (and devs) may not pick up on the emotionally charged subtext ;)
Well, conceptually it should work the same way it does for a player, in that one AI having more DC should deter other AI's from declaring war on them (since it is a positive relation modifier). I could also envision a gold-poor AI trading DC for resources. But I doubt either of those things is actually happening in 1.09e. What I'd like to see in the future is DC operating as a sort of 'super diplomacy', where for a certain number of DC points you (or the AI) can force a diplomati

I can't for the life of me remember what the book was about, just that he raped some woman (iirc) and he was sent back in time or through a portal or something to some fantasy land. I think he had to "atone" for his sin in some way, maybe that was the book's theme. What was the name o

@Glowing_Ember: You are the other person in the special thanks section ;)
I think as long as you don't stand to make money off of the work it falls under general fan contributions and no one would have a cow. It only gets tricky if you were using their art (beyond approved art for fan-sites) on a website with advertising. A comprehensive spell list is the one thing I've held off on creating, but then I'm working in plain text: http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/954860-elemental-war-of-magic/faqs/

I suspected Thursday wouldn't happen, so I picked up MOO2 on Impulse to help pass the time. Man what a great old game. Fear my bank of 30 auto-firing heavy disruptors! Elemental needs to aspire to that level of unit customization and retrofitting. Of course I should be writing down all the spells but I decided to give myself a week off.
Thank you SO much! I'm looking forward to documenting all the changes in 1.1!
May I ask a few stupid (from your knowledge perspective) questions? So I've been trying to document the game from a straight 'this is what I observe, so this is what I report' sort of way. I've just become aware, from play, and this is play of a little bit every day since September, that a city retains its racial trait after conquest and can sell an item that your base race can not sell (e.g. I start with a Wraith base custom faction, take over a Relias/Men city, now I can buy
Two general topics that have come up: One: Frogboy, please post when you have fixed the discrepancies in your time-line; no one expects the online draft to be perfect, especially with as many irons in the fire as you have; the 'verse you are creating will continue to evolve but please check your back-fiction lest you Joss us (www.tvtropes.org). You clearly care about the fiction, it will end up living on one way or another, make sure you are providing the right framework (lest people

I tested this a few times with different battles and got the same XP (and gold) if I hit A/R to start, did full manual, or partial manual and partial A/R (tried hitting A/R at different times too). It just doesn't report the XP and gold you earned through the m
With a bunch of new players joining in response to the October 31 deadline, and with 1.1 around the corner, I thought I'd update my link to make it more 'searchable' for new players. The guide includes overviews, instructions, strategies, tables, and almost anything you might want to know about Elemental. It is current for 1.09e and I will continue to update for the foreseeable future. http://www.gamefaqs.co

Hey does anyone know what the The Nemesis of the Gods is?[/quote] The Titans (specifically the Dread Lords) refer to Hosten as "the Nemesis of the Gods," but the way Frogboy uses it above I'm guessing it is also the title of an in-game book or perhaps an upcoming campaign.
Thank you! That helps quite a bit. Also raises more questions, but all in due time I'm sure. Even after your edit I still think you have some of the chronology of Carrodus and Tarth mixed up; I believe Tarth is the one to lead the slave revolts that end up earning the slave's freedom and land, but you have that happening in 123, while Carrodus doesn't make Tarth a slave until 141. Or if Tarth doesn't lead the revolts then why is the land named after him? Etc.
