Here's the solution... The game already has larger tiles that are split into 4. This is to allow placement of the small-tile (1x1) city building. The large-tile (4x4) buildings can overlap the larger game tiles. So why can't the game place the larger tiles in a brick pattern rather than a grid pattern , allowing the smaller tiles to manage the placement of roads etc?

What do you guys think about this?
It does seem a little much. But just having (individual unit DEF) would be too weak. What about (individualUnitDEF + (individualUnitDEF / DEFfactor) * (NumberOfTroops)) where DEFfactor is a variable that defaults to say 10 but can be affected by objects/tiles/stance. So puttin
Mine just kicked in. Try downloading now.
Is there any way we can bypass the Sydney server and load directly from the USA? Something ain't right. I've cancelled the download and started again. Now stalling at 5.71Mb.
Try pausing the download, then click resume. That sometimes jump starts it. For those of you in Australia, there's two servers down under in Perth and Sydney. However, it's possible that the data is still syncing across the network.
Thanks for the info. Nice to know someone is monitoring things through your night-time. :)
Confirmed. :( Stalled at 6.93Mb. I'm using Westnet as my service provider.
Not sure if you saw my earlier post about PNG vs DDS for the textures (buried a few pages ago now) but from the limited amount that I know about 3D animation PNGs don't have mipmaps while DDS can. DirectX uses mipmaps off the bat allowing the GPU to render without any interpretation which should in theory allow the GPU to handle all the graphic work. While a PNG needs to be converted before it can be used for graphic display (CPU I guess). As many of the textures appear to be PNG file
While I am really enjoying the game, the approach is already becoming some-what predictable. I find myself nodding in agreement to your points and conclusions. Good post and I think the criticisms are constructive. Hate to say it but it feels a bit like we have transitioned from Alpha into Beta at this stage. I think it is a good game now and still think this will be a great game in the coming months.
Been doing a bit of comparative testing with MSI Afterburner: Elemental . Uses around 15 to 20% of the GPU with spikes up and down. Frame rate less than 10 for 3D, around 50 for cloth map. Battlefield BC2 . Uses a steady 20% of the GPU. Frame rate at 35fps. Victoria2 . Uses between 20% and 60% of the GPU. Frame rate at steady 60fps. Star Ruler . Uses 12% of the GPU. Frame rate steady at 70fps.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9163563/QuickSave.zip In the attached save my sovereign is next to a gold resource within city limits but it can't be selected. Just in case something flaky happens and it decides to disappear, the gold resource is in the next square east of where I have positioned the sov. BTW, it did have a tool tip for the resource when the city was founded.
I'm loving playing it and have been recommending it to others. Multiplayer will be coming in a week or so I think. Yes. It is fun. I find that I time-travel while playing it. Meaning when I start an hour of playing feels like about 10 minutes have past. A good sign.
Disappointing article. Very harsh but probably fair enough from the stand-point of their audience who may buy the game and only ever play the gold version without updating. At least PC Gamer have given the game some grace to rectify the issues before reviewing it. It is also disappointing that one of the aspects that makes you so different and refreshing as a developer, your closeness to your gaming community through your blogs and posts, can be used against you. Doubly difficult beca
What sort of FPS should we expect? I'm getting around 50fps in the cloth map. 5fps in the 3d map zoomed out. 20fps in the 3d zoomed in. Running an nVidia 285 graphics card but the computer it is in is a little old (about 2 years). Also running XP.
There also a few stop-gap measures that could work: A. Simply have random rotation on the existing map seeds. Would take a little longer to spot the seeds this way as one map basically becomes four maps. B. (This is what I thought we were getting). Maps are constructed from smaller randomly placed seed land-masses with some randomly placed land bridges between them. I assumed because of the random nature of the map names that the name would be the random seed (instead of using
I can see in the files that there are a range of different ambient sounds (grasslands, swamps etc) but I haven't heard any in game. I feel this would add a lot to the enjoyment. Are they disabled?
Just so I get my time-zones right. is Stardock located at GMT+6? I've been using a rough calculation from here in Australia of add 8 hours minus a day (easier than subtracting 16 hours). My guess as I write this at 5.45am here is that it is 1.45pm over there (of the day before).

So let's try something else, if you have a crash when loading a game, or any crash for that matter, please post your crash zip file, as indicated in the "how to report a problem" sticky post here: https://forums.elementalgame.com/391297
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9163563/debug%201.0b.zip <a href="http://dl.drop
All, Please open Impulse and get the latest update for Elemental. We put one up at around 11pm last night. The debug.err at least for the OP says you haven't updated since Aug 17th. If you need more direction (like because you've never used Impulse before) just let me know. ~C
No patch available for me. I'm running version 1.0. Not sure why it would say the 17th.
Nice work. :) Thoroughly enjoying the game so far. The challenges grow as your empire does. Well done. :)
I'd recommend getting it now, or waiting a couple of days for the stability issues to be fixed. But this game is a lot of fun. Please also keep in mind that many here in the forums where beta testers and we are used to looking critically at the game to provide feedback. Got to say this is the first game that I sat down to play with pen and paper for that reason. ;)
Is it better than FFH2? - that would probably be the best comparison
I think you're right. The game is closest in style to FFH2. I'm enjoying it more than I did FFH2 but FFH2 did have better racial qualities.
Mine only crashes on loads from within the game. If I restart the game it loads fine.
Been playing Elemental now for a few hours. There are still some graphics issues and looks like a memory leak in there as well but these will be ironed out quickly I'm sure. Got to say, this is an awesome game and for me this is an AoW:SM killer by the looks. The game is way more balanced than the betas and is really immersive. It is certainly different to AoW in many ways. I honestly don't know if I'll be going back to AoW now - which is saying something for me because AoW was always
Mine was OK until then also got this error. White screen in tactical battles and then everything slowly grinds down to a very very slow frame rate (about 1 frame every 2 seconds). My nVidia drivers are also recent.
Just got this as well. Looks like a memory leak because it slowly degenerates over time.
