I had yet another crash after two hours of play, no .zip located. debug.err here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8046784/debug4.err During a tactical battle, can't remember what precisely had happened before.
If you look at the bottom info bar, you'll see small circular icons for the units in the stack. The ones that are active are the ones that are highlighted. You can click an icon to select a unit, and ctrl-click to select more than one.
I know. Doesn't work consistently for me.
This one: http://www.zonejeu.info/2010/08/test-elemental-war-of-magic.html still in French is more positive but doesn't give a rating.
Conclusion Elemental : War of Magic est un titre avec un énorme potentiel développé par un petit studio qui n'a malheureusement pas pu attendre d'avoir terminé son jeu pour le sortir. Le ré
You should add this link: http://www.gamekult.com/tout/jeux/fiches/J000093507_test.html It's in French, but you needn't read French to understand the 3 out of 10. Mauvais means Bad. - More Maps Duh. You cannot provide enough map seeds to give variability and replayability. Even with 100 seeds for 1 map size (and land/water configuration ideally), a player will play the same map again within 12 games, which is too little. You must provide a good random map generator, and the easiest and cheapest way to do this would be to expose map scripting to python (or any other language), so we could port map scripts from Civ IV or write them ourselves.<
Very good post. I agree with most of it but would like to detail a few UI issues more:
the tooltip for Assassin is confusing - does it double the first hit from your Sovereign, or from all Champions?
And is it the first hit in a battle, the first hit against an opponent, or the first hit in a row against the same opponent, or the first hit in a turn of the t
I have no longer seen the 'Equip' button since upgrading to 1.06. There should, as had been pointed out during the beta, be only one screen for item management, and this one screen should be used for trading and equipping. A bit like it was done in Diablo II. It should also be made obvious where to find it.
FfH2. You may come back for Elemental in 6 months but today there's no doubt. FfH2 is fun and can be challenging, has great lore. Elemental crashes and offers zero challenge, and zero immersion right now.
Even with the Only cloth map option, I sometimes get the 3D view. It happens after a fullscreen blocked the view of the map, but I can't remember which (after battle + take city or after levelling up sovereign?). Going to options and back isn't enough, but options + toggle on/off 'only cloth map' works.
Hotseat doesn't require much different work from PBEM. Also, hotseat allows a kind of MP that LAN does not: Playing against oneself, which is great for checking strategies. Please include hotseat. Also consider that LAN only works if you have several computers, which may not be the case if you want to play with your daughter.
I do want to emphasize that the difficulty level at the world setup is not related to AI difficulty. It has to do with how tough the monsters and such will be (crazy shrills late game type stuff). The player intelligence is set up on the opponent set up screen.
Might be a good idea to change that since it will never be obvious. And yes, do work on the ai, it's where work is needed most to make the game worth playing. Will you consider opening map scri

Mana Regeneration should be a percentage of max mana. As it stands right now, increasing max mana is mostly useless. To make things worse, when you have 2 melee units able to single handedly defeat a pitiful opponent and bring in your sovereign, who would never do anything if you controlled the battle, the Auto-Resolve will cast spells, meaning it wastes 3 turns worth of mana to dispatch a creature you would have slaughtered had you manually controlled the battle.
These books are not intended to be available at creation of custom Sovereigns. Some of the premade ones use them for lore reasons.
Which is lame. There's no reason custom sovereigns couldn't be the same as premade sovereigns. Already Kul-an-something is worth way too much in comparison to what can be built, which is annoying( play MP and pick him while someone else creates his own sovereign...).
Added shortcut keys for next unit and next city (shift+u and shift+c, respectively [shift+s already jumps to sovereign so consistent])
Is that configurable? I'd love to use space and tab instead but will never use a shortcut with shift required (I hate emacs btw).
No, mana regeneration is not fine as it is. I wait 20 turns to get my mana back to be able to spend it all in a single tactical battle. At the VERY least, instead of 1 per turn, it should be 10% of your max mana per turn. Also, creatures with mana regenerate 1 per tactical turn. Which means a fire giant can haste your troops for 3 mana every 3 turns in the tactical battle. It's probably a bug, but if they regenerate in tactical battles, why not the sovereign? W
On the hardest level, you won't be able to use your sovereign to fireball/chain lightning/... your opponents out of the way for lack of mana. when you get attacked every other turn by groups of 5 or 6 units, you jsut can't target them all and regenerate mana. Of course, your fire giant eats them for dinner, and you can even build mundane units that have two or three times as much attack and defense as the strongest attacker. Plus tactical targetting is dumb. Ai should use arch
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8046784/debug2.err No zip file dumped. Crashed late in the game on turn 2 of a tactical battle (umpteenth battle with the same units on both sides). Couldn't select a unit, game froze then crashed.
Pick Procipinee. She got more points than you could get. Or Magnar III.
I only said 6 months from completion myself! No map gen api for the moment but writing an external map generator is possible, as the maps generated by the map tool are xml files. The format is not that good however, and some information's a bit murky.
Why is there a requirement for that, by the way? Barbs do it very well, so right now I usually leave cities defenseless hoping the barbs will take it.
Do you realise how difficult or what is involved to program a random map generator that produce maps that are realistic and playable? Just try it with only 2 terrain types - water and land. Say you want a map with one third water and two thirds land. You can not just look at each square and random generator because you will end up with chess board type maps. So you need to be random in a specific areas to create islands and bodies of w
I started the campaign, founded a city, bought a staff for Relias. staff appears in relias' inventory when trading, but 'NO ITEMS' appears in the unit panel when I select him and I can't equip the staff.
Civ IV has a way to allow you to have random maps AND it works in multiplayer. It's worth noting that civ doesn't let you see resources you haven't researched, so right off the start you're mainly just looking for a nice spot with good food and/or shield producing tiles (which are very common since it's just based on terrain type).
Irrelevant. If you did see the resources in Civ IV, you'd see you always have lots of special
# The UI is updated to be somewhat more intuitive. # The “day 0” AI is in it. # There’s been a polish pass to the spell books and tactical battles. # There’s been a general polish pass to the main game UI overall.
Good points for upgrading the UI, and the AI. I hope they'll be good. Despite all the other pestering you'll receive, you must remember to work on the AI. It's why you made the game, and it's what'll make it good
