Zyx, Kirk turns to Spock, says "Time travel is cheating" and then enters the transporter. That specific comment hangs a lampshade on the whole premise.

Zyx, I have no idea what you're talking about. That is, I don't know what you think I'm responding to. I just wanted to link to tvtropes to expand upon what I'd said earlier, and to point out my own distaste for Trek time travel. I was not making a comment on Kirk's childhood (which, no matter how quickly it passed, was more than we'd seen previously). I was strictly responding to the time travel conversation. Scoutdog, Yeah, I agree with several

There's no reason to get so damned defensive. Seriously, look at what I said in the first place - and compare that to your massive overreaction to it. Don't be so oversensitive - you're looking way too much into what I said. That said, don't play games - you know exactly what gay means. Don't try to use the dictionary to obfuscate.

I disagree that RTS games lack thinking, or that clicking precludes thinking. I do agree that they tend to have a frenetic pace, and many designers seem strangely averse to providing a useful pause function. I remember Star Wars: Rebellion would obscure a huge chunk of the screen when you paused it, and disallow any interaction with the UI.

NTJedi, I've read those discussions. I perhaps should have been more explicit in saying that I do not believe those are really problems. Civilization has done just fine with having one race - and games like Civ and Alpha Centauri create variations in civ traits through explanations other than "multitude of races." I don't think you're talking about multiple environments adding multiple options. I think you're talking about multiple environments adding more overhead and complex

The original Trek timeline (with DS9, Voyager, TNG, and further novelized adventures) still exists, and still has stories going. It's also where the Star Trek MMORPG will be set. The new Star Trek movie is a reboot in an alternate timeline.

I'm not seeing what's wrong with Elemental only having two races (and six civs/factions per race). Nor what's wrong with initial training being a part of a unit's stats. That seems like an evolution of unit design as seen in some 4x games. Also not sure why land-only (although I'd be surprised if there were no room for navies) is a bad thing. I don't think that a game requires multiple races or environments to have real depth of play.

It's possible that Nero dismissed the idea of saving Romulus by acting in the present because his family is still dead in the future, and he has no guarantee of making it back to that future once he's prevented Romulus' destruction. He also was waiting for Spock, so he wasn't going to leave that area until he had Spock. That meant two and a half decades of constant vigilance.

Samurye, That's not a good example, though. If someone wants to believe that Halo is propaganda, how does that hurt anyone else? Is just holding the opinion hurtful and damaging? Now Jack Thompson, yeah, totally. He abused his profession to attempt to control the video game industry and suppress free speech, but at this point he's not trying to espouse his dislike of the games, but actively attempting to eliminate entertainment that does not meet his approval. </

I wonder what sort of analysis they applied to reach that conclusion. I mean, it is possible for games to also be propaganda, so it's not a concept I'd dismiss outright - but it does seem to be an incredible stretch to get from Halo to there.

Galciv's system requirements mention Windows XP or Vista. You might try downloading Impulse , registering the game's serial number via Impulse, and try downloading the game and see if that works. It won't cost you more to try this, although I don't know that it will work, either.

"Fisting" means something specific in English, btw. Pounding or punching the sandy beach might be better word choices. The video I linked is a joke news story, 'cause that's how The Onion rolls.

They reference the same events , and Brad says this is deliberate . It's not a matter of similarity. It's a matter of Elemental actually being a game that draws directly upon the events in Altarian history - or rather, that Altarian history was deliberately written to draw upon the events described in Elemental. Altarian history discusses the Cataclysm, the Fallen, and the reconstruction period durin

You rickrolled the thread? I think most of the posters around here are adults, actually. At least they talk like it. Of course, most of the posters on the WoW forum are adults, too, and they don't talk like it. Go figure.

Yeah, that is a pretty awful review. I'm just saying that Ebert's not the enemy of all that's good and wonderful in movies, and critics are not required to espouse your opinion about a film, they're simply required to espouse their own opinion. Some people find they frequently agree with certain critics, and some frequently disagree. I don't think that Ebert will make Trek fail, if it's a watchable film.

Well, there's a few points about the Drath: * They were mostly deported during the Cataclysm, and are no longer present in any great numbers on Altar during the reconstruction period that the game covers. * They're shapeshifters, and mass is apparently not a limiting factor for them. A small population lived among the Altarians as Altarians for centuries or millennia, and staged a coup when the main part of the race attempted (and briefly succeeded) to reclaim their homeworld.

Eh, it's an off-topic forum. You're annoyed that the off-topic posts aren't off-topic in the way you'd prefer. I don't blame you for preferring certain kinds of conversations here, but my best suggestion is to not participate in the threads you don't like.

b0rsuk, But would a $5 Elemental sell enough to offset the expense of making it? Would at least 10x as many people purchase the game as they would a $50 version? And then there's the packaging cost for physical copies. I don't know - I'd definitely prefer a pricing system that worked like that for what amounts to downloading data. It seems to strike me as a way to stimulate more interest in some games, but at the same time, it needs to be profitable.
