Eh, it's an off-topic forum. You're annoyed that the off-topic posts aren't off-topic in the way you'd prefer. I don't blame you for preferring certain kinds of conversations here, but my best suggestion is to not participate in the threads you don't like.

Don't be unfair to Ebert. He's a huge gorram geek. Look up his review of Gamera: Guardian of the Universe sometime.
Okay, so I've made it pretty far, although my allies suck. I somehow missed an incoming DL transport and got invaded by ...2100 dread lord troops? WTH? All the other transports I'd seen up to that point had 5-10 on them.
b0rsuk, But would a $5 Elemental sell enough to offset the expense of making it? Would at least 10x as many people purchase the game as they would a $50 version? And then there's the packaging cost for physical copies. I don't know - I'd definitely prefer a pricing system that worked like that for what amounts to downloading data. It seems to strike me as a way to stimulate more interest in some games, but at the same time, it needs to be profitable.
Good stuff. :)
I'm so late to this, but what the hell: It's pretty clear that the world of Elemental either is Altaria or is a parallel of Altaria, or that in some way, Altaria's history inspired Elemental's backstory or vice versa. Brad said at some point during the Twilight beta that the Altarian history and tech tree had hints as to Elemental's (or, the as-yet-unnamed fantasy game that was not-MoM) storyline. If you check out the Altarian tech tree, you'll find multiple hints
I've played games with 25% creativity in which I constantly had creative procs pushing me through the tech tree. I've also had games with 60% creativity where I barely learned any techs early. Altarian + I purchased War Rooms from the Arceans. That said, I nearly always pick it.
And how can you rightfully claim that the church is infalliable when the words that it relies on to communicate the message have changed over time? That the various translations have themselves been shaped by identifiable human agendas? Are you aware that the Catholic Church does not condemn evolution ?
How can the church be infallible when it is made up of flawed humans? The church does not exist outside of humanity. If no one was a member of any Christian church, that church would not exist. Catholicism isn't made up of buildings and dogma, it's made up of people . And by "flawed" I do not strictly mean that they sin in a general sense. I mean that they bring their prejudices to the table, and they make those prejudices dogma. That they introduce their own agendas and use r
You managed to get it working for a day or two, and if you hadn't done anything, it would have remained totally down. Thanks for updates and all. :)
EviliroN, The pirate thread will never ever ever end. However, Stardock is not primarily a game company. :) It seems to be primarily about providing apps to prettify Windows, with games as a rapidly increasing side project (esp. as Stardock's been providing an online sales venue for games since...what, Totalgaming.net? Stardock Central?). That said, gamers don't stop being everything else we are when we're gaming, either, and off-topic is off-topic. Protocept00
Lula: "Here's a thought.... the conflict isn't between science and religion or science and God or science and the Church...the conflict is of the true scientist with the sciolist, the pretender, who has a little scientific knowledge, and seeks to refute the unchangeable laws of God as they apply to religion and morality ." And how many humans have the hubris to claim that they understand such things, and then use the
The Iconians waited for the Yor to invade their homeworld. The Arceans expanded, but the Dread Lords took their planets. The Altarians grabbed a couple worlds and the Torians made their one world into a fortress. I sold all but diplomatic techs to my allies. I remember when I played before (in Dread Lords) that my allies were pretty effective, so I turtled up and researched, and sold them everything...but they really sucked. I didn't build any star bases. They sent a wave of t
So I've decided to play all three campaign games, which I hadn't really done yet - I've only played to Apocalypse before, and have hit that point again. The problem I'm running into (other than the obvious "dread lords overrunning everywhere and can't kill their ships yet) is that all the advice I've found is directed at the state of the game before the combat rules were changed for DA. So I see a lot of advice to just max out on offense to blow them away with the first shot. Except,
That's not the big bang theory. The theory describes the actual bang. Actually, calling it the theory is misleading, as there's been several models used to explain the universe's birth and early expansion. There are even theories about what may have been before the big bang. At the same time, common sense is a nonsensical concept. It places validity at the same scale as comprehension (or
Hey, Sven, thank you for updates. I'm glad the site was accessible long enough to get the high res mod, but it does suck that it's down again. Hope to see it back soon. :)
EviliroN, This is the off-topic forum, actually. There's a subforum for other pc games, but, er, people have the game-specific forums to post about Stardock's games, and not everyone who can see the OT forums is on SD's site because of a game.
You can fix it with the scenario editor: Just click on the "Editors" button on the Twilight launch menu, then select "File" and "open." You need to find the install directory for GalCiv2. On my install, it's: C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\GalCiv2 I suspect the install directory will probably be for most people: C:\Program Files\Stardock\GalCiv2 or C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\GalCiv2 You can also right click Twilight of the Arno
Yeah, what I kept getting previously was diverted to an ad-filled page that had nothing to do with i-mod. Now I just get "That file does not exist." Not even a 404 error.
Same. So I tried to tracert: Unable to resolve target system name i-mod-productions.com.
Yeah, what GW said. Beta versions are labeled as beta, and there were a few versions released after Twilight left beta (six betas versions? I forget).
Frustration. I don't expect to make any impact in what Lula's saying, but I feel better, at least. Of course, I'm speaking from my one whole response.
Responding here so this stays in "my replies." Thanks for rounding up these links.
I don't think any argument can be made or supported claiming that any particular scientific theory violates common sense - I know people claim many things violate common sense, to the point that common sense is a relatively nonsensical phrase. When I have had people tell me that my own experiences (I'm not talking supernatural stuff, just day-to-day social interactions) violate common sense I have to question whether the phrase common sense is even a coherent concep
In that case, level is definitely the ship's experience level, and you should see the ship's stats increase as it levels up. This mechanic was present in GalCiv (at least the Windows version) since release, and made the transition to GalCiv 2.
