Thanks for the swift reply. I turned both the firewall and anti-virus prior to trying to re-install, I'll try again, but am not hopeful of any different result. Tried two different techniques, but both failed. Anybody else with suggestions?

When trying to down load current version of Elemental, download always ends with the message "File downloaded is smaller than expected" and stops. Because I had successfully installed then de-installed Elemental on this computer, I suspect there's a file hanging around (or maybe registry setting) that's causing the problem. But I've had no luck finding it. Can anyone offer constructive, helpful, and relevant solutions to my problem? V/R Bob Mercer
For the last few updates of the Elemental Beta, I have been unable to run the program after installation. I get a full black screen, then the dialog box telling me Elemental has crashed, and do I a) Want to go online to look for a solution (which does nothing) or b) Close the program (which does close the minimized Elemental window). The details of the error message follow: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Elemental.exe Application Version: 0.9.8
Are there any secrets for downloading and installing this monster. I've downloaded successfully twice, but had installation interrupted with a file not found message. I've got the extraction/copy log (etr.log) in case anyone is interested. TIA for any help. V/R Bob M.
Mr. Lucky: I did it one pre-nerfed morale game, but it was with the AI's set to their lowest setting. Didn't see any ill effects, but I probably wouldn't have noticed them anyway - too busy just figuring out the interface and everything else. Now I periodically check the point where the lowest morale of any of my developed planets is about 52 and leave it there. But this is just with all AI set to "Normal". I reckon I'll have to pay more attention as I crank them higher. The reall
Dearmad - just saw your suggestion for the same population "memory" feature in the suggestions thread. Disregard my post. Bob
Dearmad, Mr. Lucky: Although morale is kinda messed up now, all one had to do to pretty much ensure re-election prior to the nerf was dramatically drop the tax rate in the turn just befroe the election. Then you could crank it back up to its formally cruel and unusually punishing rates. I think I'd like to see a return to the pre-nerf morale rules (or at least a switch one could set in game setup) plus some sort of a population memory. They'd remember longer and longer your "gamey" exploits
Mr. Lucky: I take folks off planet after a successful invasion if there are too many people for the current planet developments to support with a morale of 50 or greater. If I've got the overall tax slider set at 82%, I don't want to reduce it for the rest of the planets and I don't want the newly conquered plane to join the I-League. So pull some of the folks back off. In the late game, I find that most of my largest population centers are a good way from the front lines (If I'm win
Oh, yeah: I use the "one way" transports to ensure that population levels remain "optimal". (Although I usually stash a few of them near frontiers to provide a quick invasion force should wars begin. Maybe we should think more like "popucicles", rather than going to a better place. Bob Mercer
I'm sure you've thought of these already, but control of a couple of morale and economic resources with maxed out mining bases really helps morale and your economy. Also, build starbases in heavily populated sectors to increase military and social spending with "free" resources. Lazy as I am, I launch all my freighters from a single system and max out starbases with the trade modules (on the same starbases with the mining and production modules). I'm sure there's some point of diminishing retu
OK, I can wait. In the meantime, I'll see what crashes my system and what doesn't. :p
Does either a(n) official or private file format and variable values definitions (and legal limits of values) exist for these files? Also the "Ability" variable for ships? I can follow the core and bonus files, but they represent a subset of the possible mod files that can created. Thanks, Bob Mercer
Average age 25 (Sum of 0 to 50 years divided by 51). Real age 50, but I'm mentally stuck at somewhere around 25 - physically, that's another story. LOL
