Well, the beta will just not be a complete game. Dwarf Fortress isn't either. The start is fun, but the later game stages get boring. As for Elemental, it's called "War of Magic" but Beta 1 won't even have magic. [e digicons];)[/e] So yeah, you're playing an (majorly) incomplete, buggy game with simple graphics. It might just be that some people don't find that fun. However if you do, more power to you [e digicons][/e]
*ahem* I thought of answering like this, then I thought for a second (giggle) - The supply = Only they have it, so they have ALL the supply, doesn't matter that it's an INFINITE supply.
Physical shops have supply too, and that's the problem. Downloads can't be priced higher or noone gets them and they can't be priced significantly lower than a real box because then noone would get a box anymore.

I had preordered through this site instead of Impulse, and one Melissa in Stardock Support told me:
The beta for Elemental is due this summer, so your order is being held until the beta is opened. When this happens, you will receive your serial number so that you can gain access to the game.

I just figured I should use my impulse email.
Yep, I did as well. But it didn't indicate as such, so I'm not 100% sure.

AFAIK you will get a mail at the address you entered when preordering, with a code to enter in Impulse. Since I didn't get to enter any Impulse ID when preordering I don't think it will magically show up there :) Also, Metereological Summer has already ended... [e digicons]:-"[/e]

I think Soft 75 looks the least 'harsh', and the dark side is appropriately gloomy. The grassland however looks like it's gonna rain any moment and could use a bit of sunshine [e digicons]:sun:[/e]
we plan to close the beta shortly after PAX and it will remain closed for some months
I don't understand this line, what does "closed" mean? Not able to play, no new people? I didn't get into the alpha, but I do have the game preordered, so I should be able to beta test come september until the game is released? (Sorry, I can be a bit anxious about these things sometimes [e digicons][/e] )

Of course. Many linux distributions are downloadable by torrents, as are freeware games, fan-made movies etc. Piracy is not the same as torrents ;)

I think there was just miscommunication in the previews. The game was being advertised as an "RTS with RPG elements", which will attract people from both those camps who are used to having story modes and campaigns. So I guess that could have been more clear before the game was released. And no, TF2 doesn't have a story mode but Unreal Tournament (2003 at least) *does* and so does Street Fighter 4, and how much more multiplayer can it get eh ;) A tutorial is always good, because yes y

I don't think the games are really comparable. Sins is an RTS game and X3 is an open ended RPG like Oblivion or even GTA4 if you will. If that's your kind of game then give it a go :)
FYI: "Off-Topic" is split across all of SD's forums, which are linked. The Demigod forums are linked to the Elemental forums are linked to the Sins forums are linked to... etc etc. It's all one database, and I can view this from Sins, Elemental, Galciv, and more.
A fact that should be advertised a bit more imo :) @OP: Indeed you can better post this in the on-topic Demigod forums, because well, it's on top
