Yes indeed. I mostly build small and medium hull ships, and just a few "fleet-breaker" large/huge hulls. Medium seems to give the best combo of hit-points, logistic cost and space. Side-note: I'm not sure I agree with the concept of the same weapon or sensor unit taking less space on a smaller ship. Obviously stuff like life-support and engines should vary with hull-size.

Wherever possible, colonise with the full half-billion. A trade centre should be second or third in the build queue. This will very quickly get your revenue up.
YEah, I've lost a few elections, usually when I've just switched to Republic and forgotten to drop my taxes first.
I have had a message that specifically said the Galactic Privateer is protecting this freighter.
This is especially noticeable when you have the 25% Neutrality PQ bonus.
Agreed. The AI is much tougher when it has room to expand. Gigantic with 9 races is a different game from Gigantic with 5.
30 minutes of good thinking is more valuable than 12 hours of being slumped at your desk as a sleep-deprived zombie.
A race which could make a Dyson sphere a worthwhile proposition would necessarily be able to cheaply transmute matter, employ substances like neutronium on an industrial scale and in all likelihood be able to control the stellar "weather" (ie prevent or mitigate solar flares). Novas wouldn't be so much of a problem; most stars are stables for billions of years, and a race that can do all the above isn't likely to chose an EOL star to build a sphere around (unless they wanted to use it to power a
What about contructors?
Thx, must remember to update drivers on my bro's PC.
True. Defence is mearly a delaying tactic, and that's what real defense is used for. To stop the enemy from winning (I.E. Killing you) So that you have time to build up a force and counterattack. Also, in an earlier argument, once the enemies upgrade their engines, your mobile fleets speed becomes much less effective Well I upgrade my shi
It was for the defence of the starbase that I'd want to fleet it. You could do something like this in GC1 IIRC.
To me it is foolish to say "why does this game have to be better if none other is?". I see what you mean, but there are realistic expectations and unrealistic ones...
RPG in a 4X type world...... AN ADVANCED, MODERN ROGUE-LIKE Dear God NO! Why not ask them to send out boxes of heroin and have done with it? Have pity on a recovering Angband addict...
Well you can put more engines on your designs, you know. Bigger maps = more important to get engine tech. Don't neglect to get Gravity Accelerators as well. On my current Gigantic game, my ships have either 24 (small, large, huge) or 29 (medium) moves, transports have 45, contructors 19. My conquest proceeds at a reasonable pace ;o) BTW Eyes of the Universe is REALLY important on the biggest maps. The AI doesn't seem to rate it though. It's to the point where I'm wondering whether I sho
The dead horse has been beaten harder than the one in the "Jared Has Aides" ep of Southpark. GCIII will probably have multiplayer, by the sound of things.
Which games are you comparing it to in this respect?
Avast caused this effect for me.
Erm, Starforce are russian...
Sorry if this has been posted already, but is this supposed to apply to conquered/flipped planets? Because the PQ number changes, but then does not match the number of actual tiles available to use.
You don't really want them to spoil the surprise, do you...?
basically, yes.
here is an idea. If you want to make a fantasy game, why does it have to be just magic? How about some cool combination of magic and technology. Have you read Metropolitan by Walter Jon Williams? It is just such a combo. HIGHLY recommended!
You should probably do a search for the countless threads on "tactical combat". It's not too soon for a sticky thread "Why there WON'T be tactical combat in GC2"...
Well GalCiv2 plays a LOT faster than, say, Civ4, and it's a lot more about the game than the candy. I think it has more... well, personality is the best word I can think of. Civ4 feels like you're just playing some game; GalCiv2 feels like you're part of a project. I feel *involved*. But then... I paid for the game. The thing is, when I'm playing a 4X game like GC2 or Civ4 I usually hve at any one time some kind of objective in mind (defeat an invasion, prepare to invade, get my econo
