For the sake of clarity (and since it was assumed before): Do you actually get a better cut from your sales there, by making the game Steam-only?

There are plans for a Mac version - maybe even to launch simultaneously - but these aren't set in stone. Later on, a tablet version may appear. Also noteworthy: It's not a
Steam only after all? ...Another one bites the dust. x) I followed the Elemental franchise since the beginning, so for a couple of years by now. War of Magic sounded just like the game for me, so i read myself through this forum, while it was developed. In the end, i didn't bought it for that same reason. It wasn't a suprise for me, that it didn't do well. For Fallen Enchantress i had higher hopes. (Smart move to grab Kael.) Even high enough to buy i
I also don't know what E:M will cost, but i did read a statement of the developers in a E:G thread, that it too will be available at GOG.com, which would be great. If anyone is interested in gameplay footage of E:M, Das123 made some first-look-videos from the technical beta: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voAWKEaDqF0 Appreciated as always, Das. A link i found to be useful
I have no clue. So far i just played random maps, not the campaign.
Personally, i still hope it comes with zombies and/or aliens, just to get a good last fight out of it... Bring it!
Some questions for the more experienced players; 1) So far I've been mainly relying on swordsmen and bowmen/crossbowmen for support. What are the redeeming qualities of the other units? Because they all seem quite weak in comparison
I think how valuable the different units are, depends greatly on the overall situation of the current game and the strategy you've chosen to beat it.
EDIT - apparently, they have already fixed the issue. Quickfix can be found here: http://eador.com/pub/dialog.zip just unzip the dialog.var file and put it into the 'var' subdirectory and the problem is fixed.
Thanks for that, Kamamura. I encountered the bug too. I didn't play the beta of Broken World. But, some polishing asi
As far as i could figure out yet, the one on gog is the original, which was more of an indiegame, basically created by one man alone. Apparently it came out 2009, but only in Russia. It was also only available in russian, not in english, until now.
Just remembered this thread, and thought this might interest some: http://www.gog.com/news/release_eador_genesis It's the first part, in english. I saw and bought it yesterday. Great game so far... What else are you hiding from the rest of the world, oh glorious Russia?!
Got it. More research, more yawning, and more trying finaly did it. In case someone else is confronted with the same problems: The misplaced-screen-issue was caused by a windowsoption for bigger text. The no$key error could be solved by manualy deleting some registry-entry in regedit and install the game anew. (A simple uninstall still didn't work.)
Three month ago i encountered some problems with FE. First i couldn't play it properly, then i couldn't un-/reinstall it anymore. I did try to fix it for a while, before i decided it wasn't worth the trouble. I was one of the unlucky ones with those missing graphics, and wouldn't be able to enjoy the game fully anyway. The old thread about it can be found here: https://forums.elementalgame.com/425565 Now, a couple of versions later, i'
Someone on this forum once compared Steam to an evil entity. I don't think that's quite it. Steam is more like a shepherd. It leads you where the grass is green and plenty, and while you sleep, it keeps the wolves away. It's good to you. It's comfortable... Just don't question it's motives, stray from the herd, or look too far into your future. That said, i don't buy games that require steam. I don't even know how i could buy them. As far
Storytime! ...Sober, more or less awake and still clueless i tried my luck again today. I found out that if i lower the resolution a lot, i get a (kinda) normal looking screen. Not really playable, but at least i didn't had to guess anymore where to click if i wanted to exit the game. I also found this thread by simon_doe: https://forums.elementalgame.com/424974. Since i still have the same missing-graphic-bug, i hoped
That's what i get if i start the game. I have no clue why. If it helps you in some way, i'm one of those who had the problem with the missing graphics in the unitdetailscreen. The strangest thingh with the issue is, if i center my mouse to the point where the the buttons should be, they react to it, as if they would be there. The resolution is put to win-desktopsetting. I allready tried to change it, di
So, how to apply that realization to non-onlinegames?
This isn't much different to just linking it to crits, which would be much simpler to explain as it is an existing and well understood mechanic. That's what a critical hit is, after all. Options for non-crit-based builds come from traits, such as a dedicated spell breaker defender ability (range 1 counterspell), or linked to skill/spell effects like stun or confusion .
<
I'd like to see a feature to interrupt spells with attacks. I don't know how hard it would be to implement something like that at this point, but i don't think it would be that hard to balance. For example: Give each attack a chance to interrupt the spell, based on the amount of damage taken and max. hp of the caster*. Make the spells wich require multiple turns to cast more powerfull, so it's still worth casting them. And give those multiturn-spells range, that requir

Good to hear. Thanks for calming my fragile nerves, Mr. Frog. So many good games out there are allready lost... just... too... many...
Uhoh, the thought of that concerns me too, Humility. Optional on Steam? Sure, go on. But if on release the game suddenly wouldn't run anymore without Steam, it would be a shame... and kinda aggravating. I allready paid for FE, but i don't use Steam and i'm not planing to use it in the future.
Right... I didn't play WoM, but i too did play an alarming amount of other 4X games. The main thing to keep you busy in the beginning of practically all of them was to send out scouts to explore the surroundings and/or levy starter armies to make use of the things you found, while your city/base slowly build up and the first techs/spells where researched. (MoM, AoW, Civ, ect...) This way, right from the start, in every turn something had to be/could be done. And in
Probably not the only solution, but seems to me like a good one, as long as the AI could handle it. That is, if the means to protect them an what they build would also be increased, in the early gamephase. Otherwise the pacing would suffer. So, optimaly in combination with a decrease of costs for early troops. What then probably leads to the necessity to balance monster- and questdifficulty accordingly... Oh well.
