Quoting GFireflyE, reply 108 So, in otherwords, since I purchased the NON-steam version of FE, installing the expansion LH will still not require steam? No, you still receive a Steam key when purchasing LH. LH is stand-alone. Having FE only gives you a discount so to say, but LH is Steam only. Many Steam games work without actually running Steam, so it's only required to install and update the game.

It's like looking through a stained glass window into another world! While looking at only one image of each it's difficult to say, but from the two shots, I like the old graphic better. (not to say that the new graphic is bad..cause it isn't...)

That's probably the best solution- so if you hate Steam, you just use it to install, then play the game with Steam off. So everyone that gets it will have it on Steam, no matter where they purchase it from (even if they purchase directly from Stardock). Really cool screenshots! Thanks for the sneak peak. I do have a question about the expansions memory consumption. I've mentioned in the expansion announcement thread my computers stats, so I'll forego that aspect here. I've noticed that you've completely removed groundcover, which took memory, but have improved upon shadows and lighting, which am I to assume takes up memory?? Will there be net gain for the slower computer users? (technically for everyone, but the

While it can only be speculation, 10 years ago a release like that would have been met with a very cold and unendearing crowd. Sorry, this line made me really laugh out loud. They have the advantage of being able to move at a normal rate across much of the terrain, while heroes cannot. True, they can't pick up any loot or start any quests, but they can find places for your pioneers to run to quite quickly. And you can build as many of them as you like (bearing in mind you still have to pay them) and they're um, disposable. If a scou

First, congrats on the 85! If any game deserves it, it's FE for it's growing and ever increasing realized potential. Not to split hairs here, but what version of the game did he review? I'm going to go out on a wing here and say that an 85 would not have been given if he was reviewing ver 1.0. I don't want to sound mean....so let's look on the bright side of my statement: It means that FE has come a long way since 1.0 and continues to make huge progress wit

I've been recommending that pioneers separate city/outpost construction since pre-1.0. The approach I took was to have the Scout unit be consumed when an outpost is constructed. This gives the player a choice: Either explore further, or set up camp. It also gives the Scout unit validity as currently there is none since you have heroes to explore territory. The pioneer could then undergo any change needed to solve city spam. @<a id="ctl00__Content__RepeaterReplies_c

Whatever the system of choice, don't make it overly complicated. Choices should be concise and significant. Choosing between a +1 weapon and a +1.1 weapon will KILL the entire idea. Choosing between a +1 Weapon and a +2 Fire weapon will add fantastic diversity. Also, crafting should not be limited to equipment. Consumables, Heroes, and maybe even specialized buildings should be able to craft a variety of possibilities. Again, not overly complex....j
Personally, there are two key differentiators in fantasy strategy games that help me define what sub-genre they belong to: Am I building an empire via starting new cities on a largely empty world (ala Master of Magic) Am I fighting battles strategically (Fall from Heaven) or fighting them tactically (ala Master of Magic) And specifically, the question is: Making fantasy strategy games that involve tactical battles, city building and RPG

It won't be as big of a change as FE was to WOM but it's pretty significant. I think the best way to describe it will be a tightening of the game mechanics so that they are more related to one another. You're going on quests to help your civilization. You're champions are a reflection of your civilization and vice vers

Imo, ANY unit that 'auto-builds' itself into your army should NEVER cost maintenance!!! I'm fine with maintenance costs on these types of troops....but than the building sites SHOULD be included with a 'build' button, giving the player control over whether or not he wants to pay that upkeep.

Or - just return half the population as the remaining half is assumed to be tied to the outpost for maintenance, upgrades, and such..
THIS is a very interesting idea.
